El Dorado? Has anyone used this yet?
I picked up some at the LHBS today, has 15% alpha.

Re: El Dorado
This has been on my radar for a long time. I just have to deplete my huge stock of hops before I buy some more/different ones.
I've heard lots of nice things about this hop and only a few negatives. Let us know what your thoughts are on it when you try it.

That description sounds awesome. APA, IPA, wheat PA (or any standard wheat beer) are first styles that come to mind.Yakima Valley Hops wrote:El Dorado is an exceptional new dual purpose hop with both high Alpha Acid and intense flavors and aromas. As a bittering hop El Dorado lends a firm but balanced bitterness. This hop has bright tropical fruit flavors and aromas of pear, watermelon, and stone fruit.

I'm thinking a SMaSH. at .5 Ozs at 20 mins, and .5 at 5 mins and S05. Or Belle Saisonphilm00x wrote:That description sounds awesome. When you post your review please put it in the hop section so we all get to gawk and slobber.BeerRust wrote:I'm thinking a SMaSH. at .5 Ozs at 20 mins, and .5 at 5 mins and S05. Re: El Dorado
Just used them in my Black (Dark) Saison...
14.9% AA...
I layered Williamette in to bitter, then the El Dorado in hop bursts and a hop stand...
About a week and a half in the fermenter now... We'll see...

Re: El Dorado
Used it with 3lbs of Wheat DME. 1/2 oz 10mins, 1/4 Ozs 5mins, 1/4 Ozs 0mins.
Re: El Dorado
Bottled this one today. Sample was good, not sure how to discribe the flavor. Maybe be pear, some citrus ? I'll know better when conditioning is complete.BeerRust wrote:Used it with 3lbs of Wheat DME. 1/2 oz 10mins, 1/4 Ozs 5mins, 1/4 Ozs 0mins.
Re: El Dorado
Mine ended up very candy-like...
Re: El Dorado
what was your recipe? I'm not sure if Wheat was the best choice for this hop. I think a different malt may lend a better flavor.BigPapaG wrote:Mine ended up very candy-like...
Re: El Dorado
I used it in a dark saison...
Mostly Pilsen, some Munich and enough Midnight Wheat to give it an SRM of about 30.
Yeast was Bela Saison, bittering hop Willamette...
The El Dorado was for flavor and aroma.

Re: El Dorado
I'm considering using it in a Tripel that I usually make with Godings as a substitute.
I haven't made a tripel in a while. But the EKG is somewhat candi like in a Tripel, so I think this might work as an interesting sub.

Re: El Dorado
Hmmm....I have some EKG that I have used yet, or tried. Maybe I'll get some more El Dorado and combine the two in another brew.
