I literally can't remember all the beers I had in California but I enjoyed almost everyone.
Besides the local stuff in Solvang which was just ok, I had lots of Firestone Walker beers. Most were Double Jacks (8.5%), got to finally try Wookie Jack and whoa, it was everything I thought it was. And jeez, the most awesome surprise was Firestone Walkers Imperial Stout, Parabola. I could marry that beer and live happily forever!
We grabbed a number of the local Figueroa Mountain beers but I everywhere we went, they were out of Lizard's Mouth but of course, the day I get home, they got more.
There were others but I'm too old to remember them all.

Glad you enjoyed the beer while you were out there. How are your friends doing?

Thanks for asking. The wife is working hard but misses the work she did in New Orleans. The husband has only done odd jobs but may have landed a full time job as a manager of a small, local newspaper. They enjoy seeing sites and hiking in the hills and finding small places to go and enjoy some good beer and wine.
They did admit that they miss us alot and still say they are coming back in 2 years or so. We'll see.

The 'compound' of 2 neighbors houses was useful. The house we stayed in, though very rustic, had an awesome back yard with a brick pizza oven and a nice BBQ pit and a outside fire stove to keep us warm. It's weird needing a fire at 8 at night when I'm used to late June being in the mid 80's at 8 at home.
That made for a nice night each night to drink beer and wine and act like we were back in high school just having fun.

Parabola is awesome. Try and find Velvet Merkin if you can as well.
