Ron, I hope you have a GREAT trip. I've been lucky enough to go to Hawaii twice in my life and both times been to Kona. The first time I fell in love with the coffee (but it seems to taste MUCH better there). 2012 we stopped at Kona Brewing and had dinner. It's a nice, clean place with really good 'beer' food. And a few good beers. I know you don't like darks but do yourself a favor while you're in that part of the world that has coconuts and try just a sample sip of their Kona Coconut porter. It will surprise you I promise.
Their IPA was just so so but it's all good quality beer made with really great quality water.
Be safe and take in all you can....and if you can swing by Kauai and/or Maui DO SO. They are places you will NEVER forget........
PS You can skip Honolulu since it's just another American city...but with Hawaiian views.
