I'm glad I was able to watch the game Monday; almost live, DVR'd about half an hour after actual start. My wife and youngest daughter watched it with me.

My heart was pounding the whole game since the US seemed to just e content with the one goal in the beginning and then let Ghana tire them out. When Brooks scored the GWG, I about hit the roof! Crazy thing, I read an article today saying that Brooks dreamt scoring the GWG in the 80th minute the night before. He scored it in the 87th minute. He needs to keep having such good dreams!

This is what I don't like about soccer...
If a player from one team so much as bumps into a player from the opposing team the second player will go down and put on an act of being injured that - in many cases - goes waaaayyyy over the top.
But if a player does a "Flying Dutchman" header into the goal and does a full speed face plant into the pitch at six feet or so from the ground he bounces right back up to his feet and celebrates the score.

Although some players do like to flop like you say, I can say as an x-goalie who played in the states highest level amateur traveling league (as in not pro/getting paid, but pretty high level players), getting kicked in the head and knocked out a few times - sometimes it's not a flop. At least not if it's a goalie getting kicked in the head. And I can say that when I had a good angle (as in they had a bad one due to defenders) and charged folks attacking the goal and took the ball out from under their feet, and they went flying over me and face planted - they didn't flop then either.Chuck N wrote:This is what I don't like about soccer...

My favorite game of all time was played in a field that was 6" of standing water in most places, with a few islands here and there. In front of the goals were little ponds. They had to go through the pond to get at me... So many people went swimming in that little pond...

I just felt so sad for Tim Howard. 16 saves and we still lose. Just.... Gah!!
Re: Soccer (Alert.....Spoiler in Thread)
Still, it was a hell of a fame. No points in regulation but 3 in overtime. Belgium had only allowed 4 goals until yesterday.

I don't know much about soccer and only watch during Olympics and World cup but I got concerned when I saw how they lost to Portugal and realized we kinda really backed into the next round. That said, it was fun and, had that pretty easy looking kick gone in with about 30 seconds to go in extra time, we'd be talking about a different subject.
