Accepting poll nominations - commercial favorite

Post by Crazy Climber »

Let's have a little fun, March Madness-style.

In this thread, post a commercial beer (or perhaps two or three, if you must) that you'd like to nominate for a spot in a single-elimination poll, which I'll create in a separate thread once we've got a good number of nominees.

The poll will be head-to-head, like the NCAA bracket. Beers will be assigned to the bracket in the order they're nominated. The beers that win their first round matchup will move to the next round, etc., until we end up with one commercial beer left standing as the choice of the Borg.

When choosing nominees, keep in mind that a great local brew that only you, among those on the Borg, have ever tried, is not going to go very far. So, this whole exercise is geared more towards widely-available (but still damn good) beers.

I'll get the nomination ball rolling with two nominations:

Green Flash Hop Head Red
21st Amendment - Bitter American

Now it's your turn. Nominate your favorite(s)!!

I think this is a great idea for some fun. It's slow in the summer and this will add some beer nerdness that's soley needed.
I'll go with these though I have more.

Hmm...

Depends on what I'm in the mood for, frankly.

I do like Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin', though. I could drink that just about any time.

I thought about doing that, but think about it the way you would if you were walking into a liquor store (or "packie" as they're called here in New England). If you're going to buy one beer, you've got to compare/choose between every style they've got. This poll is no different than that.

If it goes well, I've got no problem with doing style-specific polls in the future. For now, let's just go with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Keep the nominations coming!
