This was an ordeal

Post by FedoraDave »

Usually I bottle on Saturday and brew on Sunday morning. It's a schedule I've followed for a couple of years now. Even if I have to work on Saturday, it's not usually a full day, and I have time in the afternoon to bottle whatever batch is ready. I'm always off on Sunday, so Sunday morning has become my brew day.

Well, this weekend, things didn't work out that way. I could have bottled on Saturday, but after working into the early afternoon and then taking a trip to my LHBS, I just didn't feel like bottling. So I bottled this morning.

I could have held off and brewed next weekend, but I really wanted to get the Groomsman's Pride started, so I'd have a somewhat mature beer to give my future son-in-law in late August, so he can see what I've got planned. So I decided to brew tonight. Started at around 6:00. Finished up at about 9:00. I'm drenched in sweat, and pretty tired, but I got it done.

Still, I don't like this. I'm used to brewing in the morning, and this really threw me. It just didn't feel right. It felt like more work than usual, even though it was a standard extract batch with some specialty grains, and a 60-minute boil. I've made this before, and it just didn't seem like such a strain.

I don't like brewing in the evening.

Anything that makes brewing more of a chore than a diversion is not a good thing, and should be avoided!

I'm not particularly crazy (IMO), and I don't rock-climb. It's just the name of a video game I used to like to play, back in the 80's.
