All done. Just have to clean up. OG came in at 1.071. Flavor of gravtiy sample was pretty darn good. But it's so hard to tell what it's going to finish like.

Don't forget, I give free opinions on all samples sent my way. I think I've gotten pretty good with getting free samples so far so I should turn it into a full time job.
Did you notice any difference in the smell of the Ahtanum hops?

I didn't notice any difference with the Ahtanum...but it was really hoppy smelling in my basement during the steep.

And as for the samples....don't worry, you'll get some. It's the least I could do for the Summit hops you sent me.

Thanks but I was really talking about EVERYONE on the forum.....they should ALL send ALL their samples to me for tasting, er, I mean, testing.
Glad the brew day was successful. I'm gonna do my Mosaic IPA either Friday or Sunday depending on my social life.

Are you planning to dry hop as well?
I only ask because from the majority of what I read, 186 is still above the flashpoint for the aromatic oils in the hops. Mind you, there is a lot of documentation and speculation about hop-standing right now so it's hard to say what "works" and doesn't. I've been happy at 170, but who knows...maybe it would be better at 186.

Yup, it will get a total of 5.5 ounces of dry hops for 3 days before its cold crashed.

I didn't cool the pot before adding the steep hops...I turned the heat off, threw them in and set the timer for 30 minutes. I just let the temp drop at it's own pace.

5.5 oz of dry hop? I'm guessing this will stand up to the fork test? :p

That's not nearly enough hops. OK, just kidding but in my IPA's lately, I've been averaging 6 oz dry hopped....7 days and 3 days. I love to bleed hops.

I just finished bottling this up. I decided to dry hop with hop sacks since there was so much in there. It may have affected the aroma, we'll see. I think this will have some good potential. The bitterness was very nice, not too harsh, but definitley there. The hop flavor was awesome. But the aroma seemed a little light. We'll see what happens after 3 weeks carb/condition. The jury is still out on the massive hopstand technique. Stay tuned, report to follow in about 3-4 weeks.
