61 yr old newbie

Post by JohnSant »

Just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone, and let you know that I'm a newbie to home brewing. I have two LBK's at work right now, one with a howling red ale and the other in a cooler with uncle monkey dunkel. its been two weeks and really have high expectations for these. I've done a lot of reading on these blogs and web sights and am now in the process of making a controlled chiller with a stc-1000 and a mini frigde. looking on craigslist for a small freezer for kegging. Keep up the good work on helping us newbies out.

Welcome to the OBSESSION! I to started with a Mr Beer kit at the end of December, doing All Grain 5 gal. recipes, looking to move to 10 gals., now have 7 various fermenters/bottling vessels, 2 kegerators w/cornies and a half barrel commercial keg, portable kegerator cooler, mash cooler, single burner and double burner propane setups, etc.
BUT ABOVE ALL HAVE FUN WITH THIS HOBBY AND ENJOY YOUR CREATIONS!!!!!
Don't hesitate to ask a question, there are many accomplished brewers here with much knowledge, there are no bad questions when you are unsure of something.

Welcome John, good to have you here.
Looks like you're already getting a handle on things. Pitching enough yeast and controlling fermentation temperatures goes along way to better beer. And like Steve said, ask any question you may have. We all learn from them.

Hi John. Best hobby a man could ever get into. Some will say it's an obsession, but pay them no mind. I too started out with one LBK and now I have 35 of them. Until the kids move out and I can turn their rooms into fermentation and conditioning chambers, I'm renting rooms from my neighbors so I can keep all my brewing stuff nearby. My wife's talking about leaving me because of all the equipment in the house, so I'm hoping to have her side of the bedroom soon for storing all the empty bottles and kegs I've collected. Time flies so fast I can hardly believe it's already been 2 months since I got that first LBK.
