Jimmy Buffet
Wow did I get lucky. Today is my wedding anniversary and I was still at loss what to get the wife for a present. Awhile back I looked it up, and 2nd year is "cotton." WTF - cotton? Seriously??? Have been banging my head on anything that is solid for the past week or so trying to figure this out. Yeah, I could go outside the theme, but being newly married have no idea if that is indeed okay.
Well, today received one of those bargain of the day emails and my problems are now solved. I have decided I am going to get her a cotton t-shirt.... A concert jersey.... From the Jimmy Buffet concert THIS Saturday that I was completely unaware of as in my old age and short commute I pretty much only listen to "Traffic & Weather Together" news radio. This is one of her favourite bands so I just went from heel (for suggesting dinner is a "present") to hero overnight.
Sometimes the stars to actually align themselves for me!!!

Keeping her happy, is what it's all about. Nice twist on the cotton.
There are tickets still available? Around these parts he sells out in less than an hour.

Ya, usually here too and when I find out it is too late. Strangely enough, these are either field or lower level and cost me a whopping $29 a pop (shhhhh). Based on what I have seen in the past, this was an incredible bargain. I am guessing they had a few onsie-twosies scattered around that needed to be filled. I am hoping I ordered them right and got a "twosie" rather than a pair of "onsies."Inkleg wrote:Keeping her happy, is what it's all about. Nice twist on the cotton.

Now I am hoping they sell cotton candy as she likes that too.

Ah, yeah, you can ignore the "theme". Crock of poop. Hallmark holiday stuff. Then again, your creativity is really lacking. You could have gotten her a box of Q-tips, or those cotton balls they use to remove makeup and stuff. Sheesh...DaYooper wrote:Awhile back I looked it up, and 2nd year is "cotton." WTF - cotton? Been married for just over 33 1/2 years, together for 2 years beyond that, and I can tell you I have NEVER gotten anything tied to any metal or other BS. In fact, SWMBO and I stopped giving gifts many years ago. When we want something, we buy it. There is no "honey, I'd really like..." (well, there is, but I cannot post that on this forum).
To each their own, but I recommend you ignore the chart of themes. Also, dump the wife and take me to Jimmy Buffet. I'm a cheaper date.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Sounds great! Happy Anniversary!
You may be pleasantly surprised by the seats. Sometimes when the stage is set up, more seats become available at the last minute. I have a couple of times bought concert tickets for major acts on the day of the show, and had great seats. Whatever happens, have fun!

Re: Jimmy Buffet
Yeah, 32 years this past June, for me. We've gotten to the point where we say, "What do you want me to get you for (insert occasion here)?"RickBeer wrote:Been married for just over 33 1/2 years, together for 2 years beyond that, and I can tell you I have NEVER gotten anything tied to any metal or other BS. For our 30th, I asked for a lager fridge and a Johnson Controller. This year I asked her for some cash to buy some of the pricier kegging items. She didn't know what she wanted until recently. There's a store she passes on her way to her summer job, and she told me she'd like a similar amount of cash for a bit of a shopping spree there. So that's cool.
It's still nice to get a gift, even if it's cash and even if it came from our joint checking account.

Thanks to the "lifers" on the tips. For most holidays we do the hinting around or blunt asking "what do you want?" Unless something pops up out of the blue that is perfect, I am a terrible gift giver. I would rather find the perfect gift in July for Christmas and give it then. Hmmmm, I might just start doing that anyway. For the concert I am still hoping I purchased adjoining seats and I am not on the east side and her on the west. Then again, it would save me money purchasing beer.
On another note, I do have to say Comerica Park rocks when it comes to craft beer. They now have a dedicated stand for nothing but Michigan craft beer pours. If we do have to sit in separate sections, I sure hope I get that side!

Re: Jimmy Buffet
My Jimmy Buffet experience:
Many, many years ago I was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia (all sailors eventually end up there ). One day a buddy says, "Jimmy Buffet is coming to" - some theater that I have, because of my checkered pharmaceutical past, forgotten the name of - "let's get tickets and go."
"Jimmy Buffet?" says I. "You mean the 'Margareta ville' guy?" I was into Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith and bands like that. "Why in the world would I want to go see him?" I asked
"It'll be a fun time." my friend assured me. So, with trepidations, I bought a ticket and went.
BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO BEFORE OR SINCE. PERIOD!
I've been a Parrot-head ever since.

Re: Jimmy Buffet
All in all, worked out well. Very interesting concert to say the least:
There was an international convention for Jehovah's Witnesses at Ford Field which is right across the street from the concert venue's Comerica Park which let out as all the Parrotheads were arriving. We sat at a bar by the window for about an hour and a half with me drinking Dragonmead Final Absolution watching the two diverse groups cross paths. Boy they must have been surprised when leaving their convention to see the kiddie pools and sand piles in the streets coupled with people - both men and women - wearing coconut bras and grass skirts.
Wife was extremely happy that Zack Brown was playing that night on guitar as well as belting out a few songs as she is a big fan. But, what really made her night was that she wanted to see James Taylor the next night but missed those tickets. So, who was to hop on stage and play a tune with them but James Taylor himself. She almost lost it at that point. No one believed it was him until Jimmy told everyone "he is not a hologram people" and asked him to take off his hat.
All in all, a very wise investment although the t-shirt and $10 beers set me back.

Sounds like a great time.
I didn't know that Zack Brown played with Jimmy Buffet. Was he just sitting in for that night or has he played with him before he became well known?
I was teaching student a Zack Brown song two weeks ago... I think it was " Toes" I mentioned that it sounded like a Jimmy a Buffet song. Now I know why!

Re: Jimmy Buffet
Jimmy has be having Zack on stage for quite some time and help him get to where he is today. Not a big Brown fan but have been going to Buffett concerts since I had him on 8track.
I've seen him play 200 seat places and mega big sold out shows. Every one has always been great. Missed him this year at Chastain Park.
I have a friend who has an RV, the last 3 shows we drove to it and set up in a parking lot set aside for them. We got there about 11am and the show before the show was fun too. Drunk people do some funny sh*t.

Re: Jimmy Buffet
Jimmy's concerts are always a blast. His music is fairly simple 3 chord rock but he does that so well. My most surreal moment at a Buffett concert occurred about 16 years ago. Late into the show the conga line started up and who did I see in the middle of it but my then 18 year old daughter in a grass skirt and coconut bra.
