Not My Month for Vehicles
So as some of you may or may not know ... We recently had our SUV stolen, returned and the engine seized up all in the span of two weeks or so. Well, that was fine (I guess) as we had another car we could use after losing that car. Well, yesterday we were driving home from lunch and were involved in an accident (both fine by the way) with our last available vehicle and now have nothing to drive around. I'm fine as I work from home though my wife is a hair stylist and now has to taxis to work for the foreseeable future until the car is repaired. Two other added expenses we do not typically plan for.
Now towing all these cars around has cost some money that we typically don't set aside for towing cars ... Amazing how fast money can go when you don't plan on these types of events to occur.
This is not my month for vehicles it seems. In the span of two weeks I have lost a car, recovered said car, seized engine in the same car and wrecked another car .... Can July just be done with already?
Sorry, rant over now.

Re: Not My Month for Vehicles
Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accidents and glad you are safe.
Is your insurance company paying for the damage or is it the other vehicles fault? I have rental reimbursement on my policy but the last time someone hit me and I didn't have use of my car, I made the other insurance company pay of a rental car for as long as mine was in the shop. You should look into that if you are not at fault.
I know these things differ from state to state so you may have other options as well.
Best of luck to you.

Re: Not My Month for Vehicles
Thanks, Beer-Lord ... Unfortunately, we slid into a parked car while in some heavy rain. I was turning onto a street that has a railroad track that runs through the middle of it. As I shifted into second gear, the whee got caught on the track and shot the car right. In the rain we slid right into a parked car. My fault obviously so it's $500 for the deductible for me.
An unforeseen expense of course, though I am glad we along with no others were hurt in the accident. The officer did not issue me a citation as he stated this was a pure accident and he did not believe I deserved one. Mighty nice of him.
Ironic in one way ... I just switched my insurance over from the SUV that the engine seized and the premium went from $115 to $66 per month. I have a feeling it is going back up after this accident. Life, what can you do?

Glad everyone is OK. In the future, consider an endorsement on auto policy for both towing and rental reimbursement. Very inexpensive. Many new cars include free towing. Also, auto clubs include the coverage as do some credit cards.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Re: Not My Month for Vehicles
I have added that to my insurance as of yesterday, Rick. They were kind enough to allow me to get a rental car via that policy as well. I have never had the "need" for it to be honest with you. This is the first accident I have been in since I was in high school some 21 years ago. And then I was still on my parents insurance as I was only 17.RickBeer wrote:Glad everyone is OK. Just ready to put this behind us at this point, get the car fixed and get back to it, you know? Such an inconvenience for everyone involved it stinks.
