Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
I didn't see anybody else post this so I thought I'd let y'all know:
Crisp Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer.
I'm thinking I may swing by next week and pick some up to do a quick 15-minute pale ale using this and whatever hops I have around. I don't have a lot of time to brew right now but I think I could find time to whip this up. The last 15-minute batch I did tasted pretty good after 2 weeks fermenting and 2-3 in the bottle - then even better a month later.
I could brew this next week and not drink it for a while and I think I would be happy.
Hmm....

Interesting... Saw this earlier but didn't have time to read through it...
They claim it's 100% Crisp MO...
I have been using the Muntons which is 60% MO...
Might have to order up some...

I'm getting some next time I order from MoreBeer.
Re: Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
*bump*
I'm swinging by MoreBeer today to pick some up. I'm going to do a quick 15-minute pale ale with it and whatever hops I have left at home. Just to put something in bottles.
It may turn into an IPA depending on whether they have the 4lb or 5lb backs in the shop, though.

The only way this will be dark is if I burn the LME, sorry.
Re: Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
Use D-180L. It will be dark, but not icky.Kealia wrote:The only way this will be dark is if I burn the LME, sorry.

Re: Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
Got up this morning and went for a short hike to start the day:
When I got home I decided that today would be the day I did the quick Marris Otter brew so I used the same basic schedule as I did with the previous 15-minute batch, just changing up the hops.
If this turns out well I'll do a hop-stand on the next batch. Since MoreBeer only had an 8lb bag of LME in the shop I can do two 3-gallon batches of about a 1.050 pale ale to experiment a bit.
Here's what I did today:
Style: American Pale Ale
Batch Size (fermenter): 3.00 gal
Estimated OG: 1.049 SG
Estimated Color: 7.8 SRM
Estimated IBU: 36.3 IBUs
Boil Time: 15 Minutes
Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
4.0 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 5.6 %
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) Grain 2 5.6 %
4 lbs Liquid Marris Otter (4.5 SRM) Extract 3 88.9 %
0.50 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [16.30 %] - Boil 15. Hop 4 27.1 IBUs
0.50 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 10.0 mins) Fining 5 -
0.60 Items Servomyces (Boil 10.0 mins) Other 6 -
0.50 oz Citra [13.90 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 7 9.3 IBUs
0.25 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 0.0 m Hop 8 0.0 IBUs
0.25 oz Simcoe [13.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 0.0 Hop 9 0.0 IBUs
1.0 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) Yeast 10 -
0.25 oz Citra [12.00 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Days Hop 11 0.0 IBUs
0.25 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [14.00 %] - Dry Hop Hop 12 0.0 IBUs
Pitched a packet of US-05.
Fingers crossed.

Of course, now that I've recently bought some, I get this email
If anybody else has plans to buy some soon, use the code (it's not a unique code meant for a single person):

Re: Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
1.052 to 1.014 in 9 days so it's likely close, if not done. I threw in about 1/2oz of dry hops today (Citra + Columbus) and I'l llet it ride for 3-5 days depending on my schedule.
The sample was super clear already so I think the yeast have already settled out.
After that, a cold crash and this will be the first batch I've bottled in I-don't-know-how-long. But, I'll get to use my FastRack for the first time!
I'll give this the standard 2 weeks to carb up before trying a taster and seeing how I like it in general. I have the other 4lbs of MO LME to use in a second batch and if this turns out to be a decent Pale Ale I'll use the other hops I have on hand to clear them out, too.
I love work-at-home days when I can take a few minutes to do beer stuff!

Re: Maris Otter LME now available at MoreBeer
I am working from home today so I bottled this up during lunch. That was a bit awkward since I haven't done that in a while but it still went pretty smooth and quick. I had to bust out the LBK to act as a bottling bucket, although now in hindsight I could have used a keg and some CO2 to push the bottles full, too. Oh well.
I got a full 24-12oz bottles + a bonus bottle!
Forgetting how it may taste for a minute - if it retains the aroma I'm going to be very hoppy. Err, happy.
At 5.1% it should be a decent Pale Ale. I was thinking about trying to brew with the second half of the LME later tonight but I think I'll wait it out and see how I like it. I'll crack a bottle just after carbing is done to see how it's coming along.
