Same here, BIG RUSH fan. Only seen them a handful of times but the show that sticks with me is the "ALL the worlds a stage" show in Columbus in 76, I think April Wine opened for them. I was one hell of a show.Beer-lord wrote:I can't believe I left out Aleksandar Živojinović (Alex Lifeson) I've seen Rush more than any other band by far.....maybe 9 times (and a younger brother who has seen them all over the US more than 30 times!!!)
He is definitely in top group of guitarists in my list.

I have been playing for 40+ years but have never achieved the level of proficiency I would like. Played in garage bands as a youth and have played in our church's contemporary ensemble for 25 years. I enjoy all styles of music, especially classic rock, blues and I attempt some jazz. I have a Takamine 360 EC acoustic electric, an Epiphone acoustic, a Les Paul Custom Black Beauty, and a Carvin AE 185. The Les Paul has the best tone, but my favorite is the Carvin. It is a hybrid; a semi-hollow body with 2 humbuckers and a piezo acoustic pickup under the saddle. It has a nice action and the electronics allow for using electric, acoustic pickups or combining the two. Very versatile.
As for favorite guitarists; I have many. Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Hall, John Scofield, George Harrison all come to mind immediately come to mind, but there are many others.

I have Rocksmith as well and got it back in January I think and it has helped me a ton learning chords and technique, I just have problems memorizing songs. It is the only thing I plug my guitars into when I play but even at that I put on the headphones so nobody else has to hear the racket. Like previously mentioned, the radio is what I play best and when asked if I play guitar my response is always "well I can make noise".braukasper wrote:For my amp you guys will laugh. The LOML got rocksmith 2014 for me. Nice bunch effects to play with.
Several months ago my brother built a custom bass with Warmoth parts which then made me want my own custom ones so I splurged and spent brew equipment money on a Mustang with the CBS headstock and then got a P-Bass with P-Bass pickup and a Musicman down at the bridge.
Good judgment comes from experience, which comes from poor judgment.

Tried to learn to play when I was in elementary school...
Three years of formal piano lessons, some sight reading, but could not translate to the fretboard.
Gave up... Many years later decided to make it happen.
Twenty years later I still can't play at the level I want to, but I am playing...
Mostly for me and many times for family... Backyard get togethers, Campfires, etc...
I'm a blues and classic rock fan...
Artists are the usual suspects in the rock world, Gilmore, Page, Harrison and the whole lot...
The greats from the blues world, the Kings, Muddy, Buddy, Sonny, Duane, Stevie Ray, and the new kids too... Bonamassa, Keb, Taj... Too many to name!
Got a number of guitars and lots of gear but mostly just play the heck out of my Casino and a Vintage Modified Squire Strat that I have... And my Taylor...
About 15 years ago I got a case of GAS that wouldn't quit... Looking around now, I think it's time to start listing some of the gear I don't use...

And for all y'all who, like me, aren't quite where you all want to be...
Well, this might make you weep...

Quinn Sullivan just is amazing! Unexplainable talent. It did bring a tear to my eye.

How could I forget mentioning Alex Lifeson?!?! I am a HUGE Rush fan too, and the entire band are incredibly gifted musicians. *band worship* I just love watching their documentary "Beyond The Lighted Stage".
Wow, that 8-year-old kid is incredible! I wish I had started playing when I was a kid. I might actually be decent at it by now.

I started at about 10 and I'm not sure I'm decent. My friends at least don't laugh at me anymore.
It's all fun and I don't need to make a living at it and I really don't get to play as much as I want.
The past few weeks I've kept an acoustic close to my desk at home and try to pick it up a few times a night to play a few songs. I've found if I have a song in my head I don't know how to play, that if I go online to find the chords then play it, there's a small feeling of accomplishment. In the old days, we just had to figure songs out by ear and we were pretty good with it. It's not as easy anymore.
