Pain is very tough to deal with. While not near the scale of what you're going through, I have a herniated disk problem and every now and then it flares up. After moving 7.3 tons of metal into and out of a pickup truck, filling a 17 foot truck with lumber (33 cubic yards), 12+ barrels of trash a week, ... something finally gave. Back then leg hurt, pinched the nerve, numbness. Pain was tolerable, then radiated, then got real bad (in leg). No sleep longer than 90 minutes in the past 10 days. Got pain med yesterday, today got stronger meds. 4:30 is first dose (so tonight I can take it before bed and sleep).

The other night I was whimpering a bit...

Oxycodone here we come!
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Take care of it Rick, I know what you are feeling, I had to have surgery to remove a pea sized piece of the disk at L4-L5 a few years ago. Now I have arthritus in that area.

Did it help with the pain? I was told by several neurosurgeons that back surgery should only be done to restore functionality. There is only a 50/50 chance it will result in a reduction in pain and often results in more pain.

Before the surgery I could not feel my left leg let alone walk. The morning after the surgery I was walking all over the hospital. The pain was gone, However years later arthritus has set in and I get muscle spasms and have to take meds to control them, and to help limit the pain of the arthritus.
