IPA DAY
Northern Brewer is having an IPA DAY. Buy one of their top 6 kits & 40% off a second. Thinking about it. Have brewed the Dead Ringer before, loved it. Wanna try it as a hopstand. After not brewing for alnost a year figure be a good place to start

Re: IPA DAY
Midwest Brewer is also having an IPA sale. Their deal is 20% off certain IPAs. I had a 10.00 gift certificate to use. I bought an extract based high a dry hopped IPA and all grain Belgian.

Re: IPA DAY
Many LHBS are having specials as well so if you have one near you, ask if they have any kits on sale. They may even cater to making you a special recipe.
I've done Dead Ringer before and it's good though I think it needed much more late and dry hop additions. A fine, enjoyable IPA for sure.

Re: IPA DAY
You guys know me I most likely will have tweaked a 100 different ways before I brew it. One thing I found that really helps the Dead Ringer out is a hop tea at packaging. My LHBS always wants to be drinking one of my weird IPA/Hybrids anyway.

Many times I thought about ordering the Cascade Mountains kit. Sounds awesome with great reviews.

Re: IPA DAY
Getting a little off-topic I know but I've never ordered a kit (outside of my first MrB kits).
I don't know why but I somehow feel like it's not MY beer if I do. Oddly enough I have no problems taking a recipe from something like BYO or CYBI and using that.....
Maybe it's the weighing of grains, etc. that makes it feel more like my own or maybe I just have issues that are deeper than we can get into here....
I will say that I've heard good things about MoreBeer's Pliny kit, though.

I know what you mean but sometimes I just want an easy brew and I give in to the appetizing descriptions that explain the kit.
I haven't brewed an extract batch in a year and my all grain batches have been meh... so I thought I'd give an IPA extract kit a shot.
In the past I've used the recipes from the Northern Brewer kits as a basis for my recipes. I'm spending more for the convenience of a kit.
Re: IPA DAY
Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm not implying there is anything wrong with them or that it makes anybody less of a brewer. I'm just pouting off about my own neurotic tendencies.

I had HERMS once but I was young and stupid. A shot of penicillin cleared it right up.
Re: IPA DAY
Kits can be nice if it combines things you may not have tried, and in theory they have been proven winners with their customers. Its a good canvas to start out with for future tweaks. They are no different than handing the LHBS a recipe from Beersmith that you entered from a BYO article. Since my LHBS is very local, I dont buy a lot in bulk as their turn over is great so everything stays nice and fresh and since they do the milling I dont have to muck with that either.

Re: IPA DAY
Mine IPA DAY kits will be here tomorrow. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to brew until after Labor Day. Don't know which to brew first, such a hard decision
