IB, you deserve credit for even trying to grow hops in FLA. That would be like me trying to grow a palm tree in Massachusetts, I would think!

Ok. Here is the proof. Still clinging to life. Cascades are head high. No cones. I had high hopes when I built the trellises.

I harvested the first crop out of three. Willimette was the first to mature. 2 plants, two vines per plant, I got a whopping 2 1/8 ozs. For a first year, not bad, maybe 1/4 oz when all dried out, who knows, who cares...
The Centenial has many more cones, but they are still small...
Galena... there's always next year.
I transplanted the Willimette into the ground from a pot. Holy root system Hopman... Each had at least 3 major roots from what I saw and a zillion of the hairline roots... They looked potbound.
AND I discovered the rat barstages that are eating the leaves... they are a beetle with a turtle shell looking shell. They are the same color as the leaves. I only found it because I held a leaf, and he was on it... Now to identify and think about how to control.

I just picked about half of my second year Cascades, 55 grams wet. The rest aren't ready yet. I'm drying them in a paint strainer bag, on a steel mesh table, covered with a basket, in the back yard. How fast do they start drying? I was putting them in a ziploc as I picked. It fogged before I was done.

Never mind, there it is.

my 2nd year nugget plant gave me 5.5 0z dry this year. made one beer so far out of them. the cone size was good at 2.25 inches for the largest and an average of 1.5 inches overall. also found out that I kind of brake out if I do not wash off right after picking hops.

I can't imagine how I am going to look afterwards. Went for allergy testing and found out i'm basically allergic to all types of grass and trees. Pollen KILLS ME! Mother nature will not stop me from trying to grow hops!! I will wear a bio-hazard suit if I need to!!woody wrote:my 2nd year nugget plant gave me 5.5 0z dry this year. made one beer so far out of them. the cone size was good at 2.25 inches for the largest and an average of 1.5 inches overall. also found out that I kind of brake out if I do not wash off right after picking hops.
