modification to brewdemon

Post by 71westbrewing »

Hello,

I'm looking at getting a brewdemon conical, and was first wondering what the experience are with it, and has anyone modified one to harvest the yeast cake?

Also, looking to see if anyone has any discount codes, as I'm looking to get a few of them.

Thanks everyone.

I have not used the vessel but looking at the set up of it, it seems like yeast harvesting would be quite simple. There are a few videos on it but basically what I would do would be to move the beer off of the sediment. Either secondary or bottle from the vessel. Boil some water, maybe half a gallon, and cool down to room temp and dump the sanitized water into the vessel and give it a good ride. Break everything up inside and get everything floating real good and than dump it out of the top in to a gallon sanitized jug. Than let it settle out, dump the water, harvest the layer of yeast and your good to go!

This is a good illustration of it with photos. Couldn't find the video I usually show.

Hi 71, welcome aboard. I've used the BDC, and like it. It is easier to clean and bottle from than the MrBeer LBC. Two gallon batches are easy and quick. Let us know what you are doing.

Welcome to the Borg 71westbrewing! I have a BDC and have used it a couple times for 2.5 gallon batches. Works great, and I haven't done any mods to it. If you are just starting out and doing small batches, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up 1 or 2. If you're doing 5 gallon batches, then I agree with Dawg that you may want to wait for their 7 gallon fermenter. Either way, let us know what you're brewing and if you have any questions. Lots of great people on here who love to help!

:welcome:

I just ordered a BrewDemon myself - I'm done with the MrBeer LBKs. Can't wait to give it a try! And there are lots of helpful tips here on the Borg. There's an entire section for BrewDemon recipes, in case you haven't seen it yet. Happy brewing!

Yeah. And we try to never mention kilts or showers in the presence of certain members. :p

P.S. Thanks for the heads up on the 7 gallon conical, Dawg.
