new LBK

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

new LBK

Post by JohnSant »

Got a new LBK from son today never been used had can of West Coast Pale Ale in it, ends are extended going in the trash. The tank is the old type light orange with air lock in lid, and the flip type drain valve. I did get 8 new PET bottles though.

Wow thats a blast from the past. Yup, not surprised that the can was bad after all that time.

I've got one of those old LBK. I call it "O'l Yeller". I just used mine today. I brewed 2 Mr. Beer Patriot Lagers. Along with the hmes,I steeped a LHBS mixture of several grains, and an ounce of Hallertau hops. Hope it turns out good. I use that fermenter whenever I can.

Got 2 LBK's already, don't know what to do with it got a new valve that came with my bottle wand so can change that out. Guess I could rack off the trub if needs be, trying to figure out what to do with cap, no slots only hole for air lock and don't think it will fit in my small fridge.

Got an air lock with it but don't think it will fit in small fridge with it on the tank. Wife turned the thermo back up to 75 when I got the fridge, need to check the space between the freezer portion and shelf for room between the two. LBK that's in there right now don't look to have the room. Could block the hole and leave lid loose for vent or get a hose and run to a jug of water for vent. we'll see not sure yet just checking my options, but I will use it just don't when.

Do you have a LHBS near by? Get a solid stopper to fit the hole (probably a #2 or smaller, take the lid with you) and cut a few shallow v's in the LBK.

Like Inkleg said or what I did with three slimlines I turned into fermenters, I heated the shank on a Phillips screwdriver and laid it on the rim of the tanks threads and cool to look just like MB's notches!

Well here I was blowing off how good my trusty ol' Yeller LBK was and when i checked it today the underpan that it was sitting on had about an inch of beer on it. I rush out and sanitized another LBK,but when I went to transfer it ,the hose I had was way too small for the old spigot,so I had to balance the 2nd LBK and try and hold the hose up in the spigot.Well, that did not work,so I just held the 2nd one up close and opened the spigot of the 1st one and let- er- rip. I figure I got all kinds of oxydation in that move, but I had no other alternative. Do you guys think it may still be ok? I'm gonna retire Ol'Yeller though. BTW, the brew had 2 more weeks to go until bottling.

Could be good, could be bad. Give it time, as only time will tell. I think I eff'd up my last batch, was supposed to be a nice, lite summer blonde, but after transferring it, it is real bitter. Going to give it time, not gonna toss it. Blonde IPA? ROFLMAO Time will tell
