Can or Brush?

Post by Inkleg »

What is your preferred way to shave? I've been using a badger hair brush as long as I can remember. There is something about this that I enjoy. This was how my grandfather use to shave and I was always fascinated by it. Back when I had the time I use to use a straight razor, you think beginner brewers are nervous.

Can.

What I grew up with, but I did start with a safety razor my Dad had while he was in the Army and the old style Wilkinson blades!

I don't always shave, but when I do it's with a straight razor. Actually, I only use the straight on the weekends, as it is a bit of a process and not the type of thing to rush through. During the week I use a Merkur double edged safety razor. I got sick of paying for cartridges, plus I feel like it's a more distinguished way to shave. I actually enjoy shaving when done properly. So to answer your question, Brush. I have used shaving soap, but I prefer a cream. Art of shaving has a great cream that I'm using now.

Hot water and a disposable razor for me. No shaving cream. I can't grow a beard if I tried. So it's a pretty easy affair for me. The only thing I can grow is a light 'stache and goatee. Guess I can't be a real craft brewer since I can't grow the brewers beard.

I'm intrigued. I don't remember ever seeing anyone use a brush at home. I have been shaven at a barbershop with a brush, but never done it myself.

It's kind of like brewing Rebel, you can make it as easy or complicated as you'd like.
This is a good place to start.

Hey dude, you owe me royalties for your avatar. I'lll be over tomorrow to collect them.

I use the Atra triple blade. Thankfully, due to my light skin and red hair, I could almost go a day or two without shaving before anyone would notice.

I've switched back and forth between brush and can over the years. Now I use Shaving Butter.

Been using a shaving brush for over 20 years now. Like it more than can soap, it seems to make hair softer than the can. It may have something to do with the way a man applies the soap with brush by rubbing it into the beard.

Shaving is for wussies!

I'm a welder by trade. When I feel the need to take the hair offa my face I just fire up the oxyacetylene torch and BURN it off. On the week-ends I go out to the wood shop and use the belt sander.

:lies: :lies: :lies:
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Can. I've often felt like I wanted to go to a barber shop and have the brush and straight-razor shave, though.
I feel like it's something that all men should do at least once - although I haven't yet myself. Maybe someday...

I have been under the impression that barbers quit using the straight-razor when the AIDs thing started? Always had my edge cut with straight-razor until then.
