Groomsman's Pride - The Final Frontier

Post by FedoraDave »

So yesterday SWMBO, The Bhoy-o, and I went into NYC to meet my daughter and her fiance. We made a day of it, with SWMBO and The Girl spending 90 minutes at Kleinfeld's (of "Say Yes To The Dress" fame) looking at gowns. Her maid of honor and future MiL were there, too. Happily, during this time, The Mike escorted me and The Bhoy-o around town, where we got a light breakfast, and then just sort of walked around the neighborhood.

Then we went up to the Bronx Zoo, where we looked over the venue for the wedding and the reception. I was a little disappointed that they're not going to have monkey waiters, but I respect their decision. At least we'll be close to the lemur enclosure.

But the really big news is that I gave The Mike some bottles of Groomsman's Pride to get his thoughts on it. I think it's a solid IPA, and while I wouldn't mind a little more bitterness, if that's what he thinks it needs, I feel it could definitely stand as it is now. It's got a good malt backbone, with the specialty grains lending some nutty and sweet notes to balance the hops. I've got plenty of time to make tweaks before brewing the final batch, so I'm just awaiting his verdict.

Close to the lemur enclosure killed me! LOL!

I take it you're not enamored with the venue Dave?

Can't wait to hear bout the beer decision also!
Congratulations Dave!

Actually, it's a really lovely venue. The ceremony will be in front of the Zoo Center, which is a majestic archway; really lovely. And the reception will be in a very nice banquet room a short walk from the Center. They even have a private room overlooking the banquet room for the bride and groom to chill/decompress/freshen up a little. They do a number of weddings at the Zoo, so they really know what they're doing, and it's going to be after closing time, so we'll have privacy.

But the banquet room is actually quite close to the lemur enclosure, and there's even a window in a small alcove where you can see into where the lemurs are. One of them came right up to the glass to check us out while we were checking him out!

If I sounded less than enthused, it's only because I can't help making light of things. I did find a YouTube video of monkey waiters in Japan, and I linked to it in my Facebook, so my daughter will see it. Maybe she'll change her mind. I did relent on monkey waiters on roller skates, after all, since it was pointed out that it would make it seem more like a drive-in burger joint.

I'm lucky my family shares my sense of humor.

Maybe you can get the Evolution Revolution to play the reception.

That's the real danger of having monkey waiters.

I am also anxiously awaiting feedback on Groomsman's Pride! So cool that you are brewing up this special beer for the guys! :fedora:

Now that is funny Dave! When I got married, in the thick and thin of "discussing" venues, food, etc SWMBO actually asked me what I wanted. I told her "a beer tent and a monkey." The beer tent was understandable for obvious reasons, but she couldnt understand the monkey. "Well, when you start getting older and been to many, many weddings, they all tend to start blending together. You remember being at Biff and Buffy's wedding, but you dont really remember anything that stands out. Well, I will guarantee you that if I have a monkey standing up for me at my wedding that people WILL remember it."

I got neither the beer tent nor the monkey....

Dave if Bride and Groom really want this wedding to be remembered I think everyone who posted on this thread need to get an invitation.
And I'm sure one of them will manage to sneak a monkey in for you; read Inkleg.

Okay, everyone's invited! Monkeys optional, except for Inkleg. Jeff, if you show up without a monkey, we'll toss you into the lemur enclosure.

A monkey may be hard to come by that time of year, but I can show up in a kilt (mind you, it's only a skirt if I'm wearing my size 12 pumps) and a naked cat. Will that work?

Oh and a keg of something or another to enjoy.

I think I'd need many kegs before I could 'enjoy' that! :jumpy:
