Pico brew

Post by Banjo-guy »

My wife was asking me a lot of questions about the Pico Brew last night. "Does this interest you?" "How much is it" "How big is it"

I have a big birthday coming up and I think she is thinking of getting family members to pitch in for a big present, When all is saiid and done the Pico Brew is about 2000.00 dollars. I have to admit it looks really cool and I'll bet you can make great beer in it.

I don't think I want it. I'm not really brewing just to have beer. I'm enjoying the whole process of learning a new skill and trying to reach higher levels as a brewer. I have to admit that having the ability to nail exact processes in an easily repeatable way is pretty enticing but I'll think that I'll pass on th Pico Brew system.
If she surprises me with it I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

I agree with you but why not have her by hinting about putting in some funds for a nice electric setup.
While I am pretty sure it's not in my future at all, I'd love to have one to play with.

I agree with the electric setup. In theory it will pretty much do just what a pico can w/r/t repeatability once you dial the system in but you still get to have the fun of stirring and adding hops. For me, brewing just wouldnt be the same without tossing in all the muslin hop sacks.

yeah, I was reading and basically this is a machine they dreamed up when they were unsuccessful at doing it the way you already know how to do as a home brewer. I am not impressed. Get a nice traditional electric set up.

Maybe hint toward a set up such as the blichman beer stand or something like that? Than you can work at your own pace and upgrade things as you want. Such as adding some electric element for the HLT or a pump or plate chiller. All those can easily be added to this stand. Just subtle hints like showing a picture of it to her and saying, this would be cool to get at some point :)

I think the electric unit Screwy just got starts around $1100.

Cheaper than a PicoBrew :)

Won't I be surprised when I guy underwear and socks on my birthday! I hope this is not all in my imagination.

An electric system would be great. I have to re-read Screwy's posts about his system.
