Tasted the wort again.....nothing

I tasted my wort once, and it just tasted sweet and syrupy, so I never bothered to do it again.

I get a lot out of FG samples, though. I always drink those.

Last few batches I have been tasting the wort from before the boil. Not until this last batch, a Brown Ale, did I taste a hint of the special grains, I got some of the Crystal 60 and Chocolate Malt. I with Rick on the OG and FG samples. OG back in FG down the hatch.

To me pre-boil wort always tastes and smells like canned corn.

I'm very surprised to see all these responses. I really did think I was in the minority here but I guess not. And Dave, sweet and syrupy (with some bitterness) is how they taste to me, too.

I usually taste mine. I figure I've got some in the tube, I might as well have a couple of sips. Sweet and syrupy is usually what I get too. But on my IPA's (which seems to be the majority of my recipes), I can usually get a touch of the bitterness too. And when I get it seems to tell me a little about the end product. For example, if the bitterness seems to come late, after I swallow, I have found that the end product will be more balanced in bitterness/flavor than a taste where the bitterness hits hard right away. The ones that hit hard right away, seem to be the ones that end up with an in your face bitterness too. That's about all I can get out of the OG sample. I can't get any of the flowery, citrusy, piney, etc., characteristics of the the OG sample. I usually get those characteristics when I bottle.

Recipes that are not IPA's are pretty much always just the sweetness!!!
