This should be the weekend

Post by FedoraDave »

My brother and his friend are supposed to come over Saturday to get this keezer build going. They're both good at this kind of thing, and my brother says it should only take about an hour, although I don't know about that. He's also going to take the constructed collar to his shop to get it finished professionally, so it'll look great and really last.

I'll try to post pics, although since Technology is my enemy, I don't know if I can even get them from phone to computer to Borg. I'm really pathetic at this stuff.

Anyway, I'm hoping it'll all be ready for action by the time the current fiver (brewed this past Sunday) is finished fermenting. I'm also thinking that by the time I brew up another fiver, I just may have a second keg in waiting. Gonna go to the LHBS on Saturday, and I'll be finishing off my Frequent Customer card, which entitles me to $20 off a purchase of $100 or more, so I'll probably pick up a CO2 splitter, another keg, and the requisite hoses/clamps.

You are going to look at that as the best investment EVER! Only downfall is I find myself going thru more beer. Normally when I would be fine with a pint since I really dont want a whole second pint I find myself sneaking downstairs to grab a half pint. Then, when that is gone, I usually sneak downstairs again for yet another half pint. The wife just skips all that up-n-down and grabs a second right off the bat, smart gal that she is.

I really dont remember - did you get your equipment new or used? If used make sure your tank is still certified (if required where you live). I was all hippity-hoppity getting the new rig online only to find out they would not fill my tank since it was out of its five year cert. That certainly took the wind out of my sail....

That's exciting Dave. Please do try and post pics (or PM me or somebody else for help) as I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I want to see the final product.

Best wishes!

Thanks, guys.

Yooper, I bought all my stuff at my LHBS, so I have to assume it's all A-OK, legit, and not only hunky, but dory as well.

Surely you have a twelve year-old neighbor kid that can come over and do it for you.

Well, the build is complete. It's got two coats of stain on it, and it needs to dry before the final coat of varnish goes on, the holes are drilled, and the lid goes back on.

But it looks great. And with the care Ed and Will put into it, well, the way Ed put it, it's tighter than a prom queen's thighs. It'll hold the temperature just great, and it'll look good, too. It was a real pleasure watching these guys work together, anticipating each other's moves, almost reading each other's minds. I love seeing people who really know what they're doing do their work. And this is a real masterpiece, IMO.

I took some pictures, but I'll wait until the entire thing is finished before I try to post anything.

I also went to the LHBS today for ingredients for the next two brews, and also bought another faucet and shank, to plug up the second hole. I'll get the second keg and the CO2 splitter later. The important thing now is making it as airtight as possible, even if I've only got one keg right now.

Not to hijack 'thread de hat', but here's my new additions to my home brewery. Using for the first time today and already a happy camper.
Looking forward to your new equipment Dave.
I'm tempted to turn my freezer into a keezer and the kegerator into a fermentation chamber but space, though only a small difference, is the problem. Maybe when I grow up!

Fantastic Dave, I can't wait to read about your first pour. Though a picture would be better. ;)

I'm in your camp with computer struggling. I have a camera that I take my pictures, put the SD card in the computer and load them that way. Past that I'm computerly challenged.

Oh, and nice equipment Paul, but I'm sure you hear that from all the guys.

If the fan is to distribute the cool air more evenly, I don't know if it's necessary. It's a pretty small unit, so I don't think a fan would necessarily make much of a difference. I did talk to Will (my brother's friend, and also a homebrewer) about doing something to keep the humidity down. I'll have to look into that once everything else is all set up.

Dave I installed 'DropBox' on my iPhone and my computer, it'll allow you to share pictures between your phone and computer with ease. It's a free app and its simple to use, it'll make posting pictures fun to do. You're gonna love cold draft beer in the house whenever you want it and from the sounds of it a really nice new piece of furniture too.
