Better than Pliny????

Post by BlackDuck »

For those of us the love Pliny....Looks like we've got some work to do.

I found this article, seems it has a nice clone list to work on.

Dayum! Gotta add these to the bucket list. Never had any of them but know someone who's had Firestone Walker Double Jack. I think I have that recipe somewhere.I think there's a Union Jack and Double Jack I believe. Been looking for this for a long while too.

OK Chris, you get to brewing them and let me know how they come out. I actually remember drinking a Pliny, once and only once and thinking it was awesome but that it was not the ONE. I loved every sip but I guess when you hear about something so much and finally drink it, it doesn't always live up to the hype. But, what's not to like about any of those on the list.

Interesting article. I've had Union Jack and thought it was a bit harsh but I can't say I've tried Double Jack. I just assumed it would be doubly harsh.

I see it all the time on the shelves, so maybe I will have to try one soon and report my thoughts on it.

In terms of "better than Pliny", that's always subjective, right? According to the AHA, there is nothing better than Pliny. Myself, I think Pliny is a GREAT beer, but I also think Enjoy By is better.

That being said, this is a short list that you guys need to start working on. Divide and conquer I say.

I've had the pleasure of enjoying a number of Firestone Walker brews...

I do like the Union Jack, particularly as it warms above 60*F.

The Double Jack is also good but certainly more of a sipper.

I also have been aging some of their reserve and anniversary series beers.

Most of those are heavier stouts, porwrs and dsrk, barrel aged blends tht age very well!

In my mind:

Pliny == Heady Topper == Jai Alai
Not in terms of flavor, but enjoyment.
I'm just happy I can get fresh Jai Alai on a regular basis, truly awesome.

Enjoy by was amazing too, and last years RuinTen...this years was good but was...harsher???
Never had any on that list, but if someone has and wants to trade some fresh Jai Alai then PM me!
