Well....crap

Post by truckndad »

Looks like my back is at it again. I was experiencing leg pain so doc sent me for an MIR, considering my history. He immediately referred me to my neurosurgeon. Sure enough, L4-5 has gone again and L3-4 decided to join the fun for the first time. So L3-4 gets a discectomy, and L4-5 gets a, drum roll please........fusion. Sounds like a 3 or 4 night hospital stay followed by a 90 day recovery period. Needless to say I won't be brewing again anytime soon. I won't even be allowed to drive a car for a month. But I'll likely be on here more often since I'll have nothing but spare time on my hands.

Sorry to hear that Truck, but hopefully the time will pass quickly, you'll rehab & be brewing before you know it. Beer is good for your bones so don't forget a pint a day. :barman:

Good Luck! I first hurt my back in 1987; lifting a refrigerator/compressor into the back of a truck at Naval Station, Norfolk, VA.... Re-injured several times since. 'Knock on wood'; haven't hurt my back since 2008; work smarter, not harder! Hope everything goes well; the back pain is the worst!

Very sorry to hear about your back, there's not much you can do once it goes out. Use the time recuperating to catchup up on some brewing videos and definitely keep us updated on your recovery. You'll be back at it in no time!

There are four older guys - in their late seventies - at my church. They are all retired truck drivers and they all have back problems of varying degrees. One needs a walker to get around. Two of them drove cab-overs almost their entire career. I guess those are the worst. (But we have a old cab-over Ford as one of our fire trucks and I love to drive it.) The one with a walker screwed his up jumping down out of the truck.

You get better there, Truckndad. I hate to see anybody laid up.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Bad backs are horrible. Mine is inoperable, surgeon said years ago that he would do more damage than good given how low it is. Every now and then it acts up, this summer pretty bad had to go on 10mg Oxycodone for the pain, and to sleep at night. Still some lingering numbness in my left leg.

I did mine really good trying to lift a basketball pole (which was full of concrete) to resecure it in the hole. Pop! Next day when I got out of bed I fell on my face due to left leg being numb.

Hope it goes well!

Bad news TD.

As everyone has said, back problems suck!

There has been some advancement though...

Ask your doctor about minimally invasive solutions...

Get better soon!
