Re: This should be the weekend
Yeah, I'm going to enjoy it while I can.
The thing is, if I don't use that particular skill set often, over time I'll forget how to do it, and then, when I want to do it again, I'll get all frustrated another time. As I said, this kind of thing is very counter-intuitive to me, for some reason.

Re: This should be the weekend
I'm looking forward to it. I have Saturday off, and usually I bottle in the morning, and then make a run to the LHBS, but I think I'm going to reverse that and ask a few procedural questions while I'm there. I want to make sure I'm prepared to do things right. The good thing is, I know I can call them in the middle of what I'm doing and ask them a question over the phone, and they'll talk me through it.

So Dave what are you going to do with all your free time when you don't bottle Saturdays anymore?

Re: This should be the weekend
Birdie, you should know by now that my brewing schedule includes one fiver and two 2.5 batches on a 3-week rotation. So I'll still be bottling the small batches two weeks out of three. And while I don't see it happening, I may even need to bottle a fiver if the keezer is still full some time down the road.

Here is what I recommend Dave. I would Keg almost all the 5 gallon batches. Then when you are out of kegs and need a container for a batch you can empty out a keg of beer that has the least amount left in it of the one that just doesnt do it for you. Not sure how many kegs you have or will have on tap. That may be an easier process for myself since I have 6 taps and room for another 2 more kegs in the kegerator with picnic taps.FedoraDave wrote:Birdie, you should know by now that my brewing schedule includes one fiver and two 2.5 batches on a 3-week rotation. Just my coins for you.

Re: This should be the weekend
Dan, I have enough room for three kegs, but I'm only using two taps (see picture in the next post). I figure to have two taps operational and have the third keg in reserve, charging and conditioning, so that when one keg runs dry, I can just switch to the full one. I'll also have the option to use the third keg for lagers, if I want to take the time.

Re: This should be the weekend
So it's all done. All I need now is the beer.
I'm going to the LHBS on Saturday, and I'm hoping to get a second keg and a 3-way CO2 splitter, along with the requisite hoses, connecters, etc. Then I'll come home, install the splitter, and keg my first batch!

Well, my brother Ed, and his buddy Will were the ones who had the know-how and did the actual work. I'm just bringing the beer.

Paul, that's the splitter I intend to get; or one very like it. They have them in stock at the LHBS.
I got the tap handles from Northern Brewer.
By the way, how is that splitter mounted? Just a couple of screws, I assume?

For me, it's not. I have my tank in my kegerator so mine is lose and pretty much in the way but it's worked for almost 2 1/2 years.
But normally it's screwed or nailed.
You're in like Flint now.
