HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN A PIRATE? (actually sea scout but...)
All me bloomin' life, sir! Me mother was a mermaid, me father was King Neptune. I was born on the crest of a wave and rocked in the cradle of the deep. Seaweed and barnacles are me clothes. an interesting side note... when a canon ball struck a mast, usually there followed a spray of shards of wood . anyone unfortunate enough to be caught in that spray of wood usually ended up looking like a porcupine... a dead porcupine. shivering the timbers refers this spray of death.
pirates often wore ONE eye patch, not because they all had eyes missing. rather, keeping one eye in the dark made the transition to below deck battle easier. imagine being in the glaring sun then rushing below decks where it was often semi dark. while you were standing there waiting for your eyes to adjust, you would be dead. the pirate would simply shift the patch to the other eye.
AAAAR! NOW BELAY THAT SCUTTLEBUTT AND HOIST THE MAINS"L! OR TWILL BE THE DEVIL YE PAY! (paying the devil... as a form of punishment you would be tied to a rope and hung over the side of the ship while in full sail..where you would have to caulk the longest seam on the ship ).

zorak, ye really should change the glasses on your avatar to and eye patch. I didn't know about the Devil Ye Pay, I need to rebone up on my pirate.
