Wow! I really like this. Really. One of you hopheads please make it and tell me if I’m off my rocker or if this is really as tasty as I think. (Caveat: If you don’t like Citra, you won’t like this) It uses a ton of hops, which I had sitting around just waiting for something special. I kegged it tonight and brewed a Caribou Slobber to fill the empty fermenter. So even if neither batch is balanced, they’ll even each other out in the end...
For a 6-gal batch, full boil:
Crystal 77 (12 oz.): Steeped from cold to 172 degrees.
Nugget hops (0.75 oz.) x 90-min boil

Citra hops (1 oz) x 10 min
Light DME (3.0 lb) x 5 min
Golden LME (3.5 lb) x 5 min
Munich LME (3.3 lb) x 5 min
Mosaic hops (1oz) x 5 min
Citra hops (1 oz) x 5 min
Mosaic hops (1 oz) @ flameout
Citra hops (1 oz) @ flameout
Galaxy hops (1 oz) @ flameout
Mosaic hops (1 oz) as tea with 2 rinses
Citra hops (1 oz) as tea with 2 rinses

Re: Triple Threat Citrus Bomb
The ingredients look really good. I bet that does taste good. How did you do the "tea with 2 rinses"?

Put the hops in a French press coffee pot with water just off the boil, let it steep 20-30 minutes. Pour it off into the fermenter and repeat it twice.

Re: Triple Threat Citrus Bomb
That's almost 11 oz of hops to 6 gallons....my kind of beer. I'm doing on this weekend with 16 1/2 oz of hops in a 6 gallon batch.
Chris, from what I've read and never tried, you put the hops in a bag and steep very similar to a tea bag for about 20 minutes. If you boil the water for a minute and add it to the hops, you can add it in at any time after its cooled but I've not heard when the best time is. Most do it at dry hopping time and some even do it in the keg while others have done it at bottling time.
Alb, when and how do you do this process?
EDIT: I see you posted before I completed my post......at what stage do you add it to the fermenter?

I put it right in with the wort at the beginning. I never seem to lose anything doing it that way. Maybe because it's steeped already, I don't know. And I do the rinses with tap water. No problems so far.

Re: Triple Threat Citrus Bomb
So I guess it's sort of like a weak, hopshot. I've never read where they put the tea in the beginning so that's kind of cool.
May need to try this in the future. So glad you shared this!

Re: Triple Threat Citrus Bomb
Sometimes I keep the steeped hops in the fridge and use them to "dry" hop after initial stage of fermentation. Like a normal dry hop but with damp hops. There's plenty of good left in them after steeping. In this case, I already had enough hop character!
