We have gotten Anchor Steam here in Nashville for just about forever, but since Christmas Ale season last year, we've started getting deluged with Anchor beers in our market (which is a good thing). I'm guessing they changed distributors in the area, but not exactly sure. I haven't tried many of them yet besides Breckle's (and, of course, the steam), but I plan to get their saison, IPAs, barleywine, and a few others onto my tasting list soon.

Today I picked up Anchor American Lager. According to the writeup, it seems to be a SMASHish ale, with "two-row California barley, Cluster hops (the premier hop in 19th-century California), and our own lager yeast." It's based on an 1876 recipe from Boca Brewery, which was a brewery active in the 19th century in California, and is considered the first California lager. I love historical beers, so I'm all in on buying a sixer of this. It's a decent lager... very clear, great head retention, distinctive Cluster hop flavor, and that Anchor Steam flavor/character (to a lighter degree). But, much like Champagne Velvet and Gerst, I love these stories and these breweries recreating historic beers, so I'm really glad I tried this...

To answer the earlier question, Sucks is a quite pleasant DIPA. And... the cost/benefit on this (and most Lag beers) is quite good. $6 for a quart...

Tonight, while setting up a bottling session, I assessed the beer fridge and found something hidden in the back that probably shouldn't have been kept this long. The Beacon: A Tennessee High Tax Ale, a collaboration of Yazoo and Calfkiller, two of my favorite TN breweries. I had had a case of this, and this one got buried behind all of the other goodies. I guess I need to rotate the stock a bit more often. This beer was created when the TN breweries (led by Linus at Yazoo) were fighting to fix the beer taxes in TN (a successful, but ongoing, battle). This has held up surprisingly well, considering this smoked wheat ale is two years old.

Lexington Brewing's Kentucky Peach Barrel wheat ale... This beer is delicious! Very present but not overly sweet peach flavor, lightly hopped, well balanced. Easy drinkin!
