Okay, 'member how The Bhoy-o turned 21 a few weeks ago, and I took him out for his first beer, and it seemed like it was gonna be his last beer, because he didn't like it?
Remember that?
Well, tonight, we were hopping back and forth between Gotham and Monday Night Foosball, and there was a Sam Adams commercial. And The Bhoy-o mentioned that he'd like to try a Sam Adams. So I told him I'd get some Oktoberfest, because hey, Sammy makes a darn good Oktoberfest, and I might as well have a sixer of it in the fridge, right?
But then, encouraged by his interest, I tried an experiment. I've got a fiver of FedoraDave's American Ale kegged, and while I've had my difficulties with this maiden voyage, tonight's draw looked encouraging. So I took a small taster glass, drew a sample, and let him have it.
He actually thought it was pretty good! So I'm thinking here's the dealio....
His first beer was a craft lager; an amber lager, so the malt bill (and I'm sure the hops bill) is more involved. Not so with FD's AmAle. It's nearly a SMaSH brew, with the majority 2-row tempered by a small amount of Carapils and some rye malt, and Simcoe hops used exclusively.
He just may prefer KISS beers. And that's perfectly all right. And I've got a couple of those in the recipe book....

Re: Hope springs eternal!
There are thousands of beers out there have him keep trying different beers to find what he likes. I had a co-worker who only "liked" bud light, until I had him try a stout. Now that is his beer style of choice.

From Bud Light to stout?! That's a real awakening!
Again, I don't expect my son to be the same level of beer aficionado that I am. But I do want him to know that the possibilities in beer are endless, and just because his first experience wasn't something to his liking, that doesn't mean he won't find a beer style he finds pleasing.

I think that's good Dave. I didn't like beer until my mid twenties, and didn't like many styles until my fifties. Patience.

I just saw this joke online and was reminded of this thread. I thought you'd get a kick out of the joke, FD:
------------------------
I was reading an article last night about fathers and sons, and memories came flooding back of the time I took my son out for his first drink.
Off we went to our local bar, which is only two blocks from the house. I got him a Guinness. He didn't like it – so I drank it.
Then I got him a Samuel Adams, he didn't like it either, so I drank it.
It was the same with the Coors Light. And the Bud.
By the time we got to the John Jameson Dublin Irish whiskey, I could hardly push his stroller back home.
