In Michigan we can get a driver's license that allows ground passage to Canada and Mexico, no passport needed. But it's only for border states and I don't know even if all of them have it.

As far as your question - I did some research for a past visit, and of course not only didn't use it (I brought homebrew and the one place we were going to stop on the way back it would have been mid-afternoon and the twenty-somethings voted to keep driving), but didn't keep it.

As you probably know, both sides are very commercial, with the Canadian side much more built up. Make sure you read reviews every place you can find, because a lot of them really don't measure up. TripAdvisor, Yelp, Beer Advocate.

Hey wait a minute. If you're in Niagara Falls celebrating your anniversary, how are you going to be able to go to breweries or brewpubs? Aren't you misunderstanding the entire reason to go there? :muahaha:

Just off the phone with on of my vendors from around there, and it might be a little drive, by Chautauqua but Southern Tier is maybe a stop over on the way home.

That's a few hours from the Falls...

SWMBO and I stopped on the way back from Massachusetts in February in NY state. Middle Ages and Empire. http://beerborg.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... ter#p31600

And what's this "break" garbage. Sheesh, kids these days.

Steve, Southern Tier in Lakewood is probably around 100 miles from Niagara Falls. If you do go there on your way home you can take 86 west and hit 90 just before Erie PA. I live in Chautauqua County, about 16 - 18 miles from the brewery. I was just there again last Saturday, had a couple beers and bought some glasses. Make sure you check on the days they are open and the Hrs. Lots of brewpubs in Buffalo, Where ever you go, Have Fun :)

If BigPapaG was around he could probably give you some good ideas, but I am not sure what's going on with him.

This would be another good trip/honeymoon for you and the Mrs. sometime. Spend a night at the S/A casino (great rooms, we've stayed there) and visit and tour Southern Tier the next day and be back in OH. that day. Nice little weekend get-a-way and if you wanted berryman and berrygirl could meet you at either place :)
I want to do a weekender to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame sometime and hit a few breweries along the way, maybe this winter we will do this.............

The wife and I went there last year just because and of course we had to hit up the breweries. At the time there was only one that we can find (it looks like they added a second called Taps) and it is called The Syndicate in Canada. It wasn't bad but not the most exciting. Food is a bit pricey, but everything is in that area. Didnt help that we went on the 4th of July figuring Canadians wouldnt be celebrating it. Yup, they are crazy.

The area also has a very nice wine trail. We stopped at a couple but honestly dont remember the names. The brewery was easy since there was only one.

One note. Do NOT go to the Outback. The food was garbage and overpriced. Usually when we go places we stay away from chains since that defeats the purpose of traveling, but had a Groupon for 1/2 off so figured we would have a cheap day. Ended up spending twice what I would in the States full price for a chewy steak. There was a reason that every other place had lines except them.

We stayed at Seneca Niagara last nite were at a really nice place called Red Coach Inn. Our room overlooks the Niagara River and the Canadian skyline, when they found out we were coming, they scheduled fireworks for us over the Falls tonight and Sunday nite! They're even going to lite up the falls with colored lights for us while we're here! Berryman, should keep in touch sbout our travels to each other backyards, we have been thinking about an overbite at SA, but I think I would rather the tour of Southern Tier then SA, and the Rock Hall is 12 miles West of where we live, there are three breweries right there in Ohio City by the West Side Market, Great Lakes, Market Garden and a new one that just opened there all within walking distance, then back around by us is Willoughby Brewery. But there are quite a few small scale micro's that may take some driving to get to. :clink:

I don't think they've ever done fireworks or lit up the falls before.
