That reminds me of a poster a lady had in her cubicle where I use to work:

"For our anniversary my husband got me a mood ring. When I'm happy it turns green. When I'm sad it turns blue. When I'm angry it leaves a large red mark on my husband's forehead. Maybe next year the idiot will get me a diamond."
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

The calm before the storm. Tomorrow brings deer hunting and all the city slicker road hunters (last word used loosely) with bad attitudes.

Ours starts on Saturday (the fire-arms season). I'm not a city slicker and certainly not a road hunter but I do have a bad attitude. Damn MN DNR let the deer herd get down to near extinction levels in the northern part of the state (slight exaggeration). I'll be lucky just to see a deer this year let alone a shooter deer.

We have the same problem here. G&F got too greedy, now the deer are far and few between here. I've had cameras set up for a few weeks now, I have total pics of 5 does, and one forkie. And this is in areas with water, food, shelter and low human traffic. We have not seen many this year, usually they are thick around my place. We don't know what we are going to do this year.... another year of tag stew.

We have a vast herd of deer here. But you can't hunt them, because it's dense urban without enough of a backstop in most places to be safe as the folks you call city slicker road hunters pretty much would apply to anyone who owns a hunting rifle here except for a handful of us who actually learned how to shoot in a 1 shot 1 kill manner and learned proper gun safety from our fathers/grandparents and/or jarheads (all 3 in my case).

Instead of letting good folk like you come out here and help with the problem, they pay trained sharpshooters to cull the herds a bit and give the meat to soup kitchens. Which is fine - better them shooting in our confined spaces then my moron neighbors, and moron nephews who I want to punch in the face every time I see them handle a gun. I wish I could send them to camp perry for a week to get pounded by jar heads and learn something. But nooo...

Anyways, I'm rambling ....

Apparently, going out into the deer woods with a bad attitude is the way to do it. Nine-o-clock on opening morning this buck came in to within thirty yards of my stand and laid down. He never new what hit him...
