Got contract today and inspector comes in the morning.

We're trying to get a scouting trip set up with the Realtor in Roanoke for next week or so.

Go figure it all happens smack dab in the middle of winter.

Looking forward to seeing what all this "basement" business is about.

Gonna be crazy trying to do this during the holiday season, especially driving back and forth.

Will be missing the Nashville bash by days in both directions looks like (they sigh with a relief as a collective ).

Oh! Can someone tell me how to drive in snow?

Congrats. You're right, not only is it winter but with all the coming holidays, it doesn't sound like fun.
And, you need adjust your priorities about Nashville. What kind of bribe do you need?

Congrats! The snow driving is not too bad, just drive with caution, biggest thing I can tell you is watch out for the other guy! The only thing to really watch for is the ice. Hit ice and just hold on, not much u can do ('cept try to avoid it). Personally, I aim for the ice when no one is around, it's a blast to spin in circles, fishtails, sliding, uh... yea, watch for the ice.... LOL

Carry a small bag of kitty litter in your trunk (a handful thrown under the spinning tires will sometimes give u traction to drive out), a small trench-style shovel (to remove snow your stuck in), some warm emergency clothes/blanket incase u slide off road and can't get immediate help (flashlight with spare batteries in case it's night time). We keep a trail mix in trunk to munch on for energy if stuck, a small tow strap incase your stuck and the person offering to help you does not have one. Also, if stuck and can't get help, start/run eng. for a MAX 15 minutes every hour (gots to watch the fumes). A good car cell phone battery charger. We also carry a few road side flares in trunk. You may not need all of these items as we do, we are out in the boonies and can sit for days before someone comes along. The list can get long but I think u get the idea. I don't know how remote your going to be, but even in da city lots of these items will help out in case something (hope it does not) happens.

FIT, great advice, as we're not as used to snow as most.
I learned to drive in the snow in empty parking lots when I was 19, doing crazy maneuvers while it poured down!
But still, as few plowable snows as we have, I still get nervous driving in it.
Don't fear it, treat it with respect and you'll do fine.
You find out what D2,D3 and L on the shifter are for!

The area they will be in is very hilly, and if they are in the city proper, they won't be far from help!
But, you would rather not find out how far I know!

Congratulations! I hope it all goes smoothly for you! One of my brothers lives in Chesapeake, VA. Now, I don't know how close that is to Roanoke, but if I go to visit him ever, we should attempt to meet up if it's practical.

And I wouldn't worry too much about snow. I imagine the amount of snow you'd get would be minimal. Driving slowly and being easy on the brakes and gentle on the turns should get you through.

Dave, Chesapeake is like night and day weather wise from Roanoke.
Chesapeake's a coastal city whereas Roanoke is in a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains with an elevation of nearly 1,000 ft.

Your advice on driving in the snow is spot on.

Yeah, for some reason, I thought Roanoke was coastal, also. Having looked at Google Maps, I see there's a danger of snow there, for sure.

Being a Michigander, I dont have much in the way of advice for snow driving as I think we are born with it. A lot of it has to do with where you live. A friend of mine who went to school in da UP moved out to Texas and always has a chuckle that the state shuts down when they have 1/2" of snow so people dont kill each other on the roads, as he was up there with me that one silly year when we received 42" in an HOUR (and yes, school did close for the 3rd time in its 100 year history). Common sense did kick in and I decided not to drive that day, mostly due to I couldnt find my car.

I wouldnt trade my snow for the world as really enjoy true seasons. You will come to love it as well.

Congrats on the sale! We have people that forget how to drive in the snow up here in Cleveland when it only snowed a few days earlier!
