Had a freak windstorm last week; wind coming from the east. Lost power last Tuesday; all day & half the night. Been cold since then... More normal rainy weather is expected back tomorrow in western Washington.

Feeling it for those folks in Buffalo area 76 " of snow!
:wow:
Hope those of you in that area are keeping safe and warm and not trying to venture out in that.
:freeze:
Speaking of Buffalo, anyone heard from BigPapaG? Hope all is well with him.

Saw on NBC this morning Erie County sheriff saying that they found that many that got stuck "had no reason to be out when asked.".

Even with a 4x4 truck (i.e. much more clearance than a car or most SUVs), the depth of the snow is just too much. This is the NY Thruway YESTERDAY before more snow came.

The talk on the local news now is what's going to happen about Sundays game, The Ralph is buried in snow. They are looking for people to shovel @ $10 a hour and a free ticket to the game. The NFL higher ups are working on the problem. Our wonderful Gov. came into Buff. today to hold a press conference and tell everyone that they are doing everything they can and there still is a travel ban (wonder how he got here?) I90 is closed between exit 61 Ripley,NY and exit 46 to Rochester,NY. Looks like we are going to get a little of this on the next go-round down here tomorrow. We typically get more snow per year then the Buffalo area, but we are way more rural and it doesn't cripple us as bad as in a highly populated area. And when Buffalo gets hit they get hit hard.............
I also have been wondering about BigPapa, we haven't heard from him in awhile.

Several years ago I worked for a few weeks in Fulton, NY. Just north of Syracuse. The lake effect snow dumped like two feet of snow on us in lees than one day. But in Syracuse, less than an hour away, they barely got a dusting. I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and thought I was use to snow. But that even freaked me out.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

And that's how it works with the Lake Effects , if I was to drive north right now for 15 min. I'd find closed roads, but yet even though I have snow here, my wife just came up my hill driveway in 2 wheel drive and I have not plowed it yet.
The great lakes have a weird effect on the weather patterns, when I was growing up we never heard of "lake effect" but that's what it was, we just knew it was winter and be ready. I'm about 15 miles south east of Lake Erie and about 500 ft. higher and the snow likes to usually dump around here. Depends on the wind, This time it went North East right up the lake to buffalo...

Ive been hearing that people have been coming from all over to surf Lake Michigan the other week. They swear that right now it is - or was - some of the best surfing in the world.
