I filter our drinking/brewing water with a reverse osmosis system but we have tap water, not crap water I hope.

Why do I see these greenies now having a sudden problem figuring out what to do with the masses of plastic bottles from all the bottled water they are now drinking so they dont have to drink Coors - err, I mean piss water (same thing?).

Water quality, as well as quantity, was at the top of our list when we chose Roanoke to move to. Their water quality is a key feature in the Chamber of Commerce material for luring business to the are.

Our criteria for a new home was 1.) Brewing water and 2.) an LHBS

BB2 and I were blown away by how many communities came off of our list stricly because they had some major water supply issues.

The west was off the list because well... they are running out of water; Savannah had saline encroachment problems; College Station had arsenic; Florida had sink holes (yes that is a water problem) etc. etc.

After Katrina all that yuck from the flooded area got pumped into Lake Pontchartrain where you buy your fresh shrimp and...

The water in the Gulf of Mexico really isn't supposed to be brown.

The People In Charge have known, and ignored, for years that water conservation is a huge issue and that a lot of potable water could be preserved if grey water was separated from sewage at a home by home level but the builders/developers didn't want to deal with the time and expense involved.

So while the Johnny Greengrasses of the country dump billions of gallons of drinking quality water on their lawns instead of grey water (like they do in St. Petersburg FL.) tax payers fund new water reclamation projects and the cronies get rich.

The scary part to me is that discussing treating waste water is hitting mainstream media now as though it is something new while the exact same political/crone cycle is happening with fracking in the oil industry and nobody even knows/reports what kind of creepy stuff they are pumping the will end up in the aquifers.

I was going to start in on the drugs that end up in the water at treatment plants which CANNOT be treated with chlorine and removed but I'll end my rant instead.

Hey! We have 10,000 lakes up here. So water quantity isn't an issue. The issue is the damn fish pee, poop and fu---I mean fornicate in them. What kind of beer would you make with that?

I use Zepher Hills bottled spring water down here in FL. I only make 2 Gal batches, so I pick up 4, 1 gal jugs on brew day. Although in a pinch, I've run tap water through our Brita water filter which is just activated carbon. I've been tempted to use rainwater on a batch just for Sh1ts and giggles.

The city uses a reservoir that is located about 30 miles away.

Now, if we have drought conditions and have to start using treated river water, all that changes because there is a distinct difference in the quality.

When I started with the Mr Beer recipes I found a great deal on 1/2 gallons of bottled water, so that's what I used for a while.

I asked the brewmaster at the local brewery about getting water samples tested and he assured me it was not necessary,
and went so far as to tell me we had some of the best water in the state for brewing.
