Bob, I personally haven't had this procedure, but my Mom has had a similar procedure in her neck.

She was having problems with pain in her neck and down one of her arms. They injected her twice. The last time she had it done was about three years ago.

She has had a very good experience with it in my estimation and she's in her mid 80's!

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

There was a fungal meningitis outbreakrelated to the spinal steroid injections a few months ago but all the bad steroid stuff is gone now. My mom (87) has had those shots twice now for degenerative disc problems and it really helps her a lot!

Had a steroid injection in my shoulder, but not a spinal one (yet). Took a while to kick in, but it definitely did help.

My grandma had a steroid epidural near her hips when she was 91 and she pretty much stopped using her walker for about 2 years.

Bob, that is a procedure to place a steroid into the epidural space of the spine. The spinal cord is covered by a thick membrane called the dura mater, and the medication is injected into the space outside the dura. It can reduce inflammation of a nerve root caused by a bulging or ruptured disc. If done properly, it can dramatically reduce back pain for weeks to many months or longer. I have had many patients have a very good result from it but it does not work for everyone. I would recommend it only be performed by an anesthesia trained pain management specialist.

hard to follow docpd but i have a friend who had the procedure and helped him a lot, for many months. it was plain to see he had a big reduction in pain, he said no pain.
