Re: Beers Americans no longer drink
Very interesting.....I used to drink Miller High Life before I started brewing my own. That was my daily beer. I never realized that I had that much of an effect on their sales.

Go John, Go John... (hipsters singing while John "goes?"...)
One has to remember that for decades many of the mass-consumed beers were literally crap. People didn't know better - when you live in a city and don't travel and work in a plant and go to local bars you found few choices. So when you bought beer in store you bought what you knew. Then, things changed but many of the old beer companies didn't change, and caused their own demise, or a dramatic decrease in business. Also, some brands were bought by competitors and intentionally put closed.
Example - Stroh's bought Schaefer in 1981, bought Schlitz in 1982, but could not handle the debt, and that prevented it from competing with MCB. In 1996 they bought Heileman (30 brands including Colt 45), in 1996 took over the brewing of Pabst and in 1999 sold everything to Pabst. Many of the brands then disappeared.
Pabst was bought several times, and contracted all their brewing to Miller in 2001. In 2010 they were purchased again by C. Dean Metropoulos, who then sold it in 2014.
Brands include Pabst, Old Milwaukee, Colt, Stroh's, Lone Star, Olympia, Schmidt, National Bohemian...
So some reduction is due to consumers, some due to putting competitors out of business by acquiring them, and some by bad management.

I have 2 friends that drink that like crazy. One loves my homebrew, there's still hope for him, but the other, not a chance. He is soo addicted to that pisswater he can't stand anything else. He drinks atleast 6-7 cases a week of that crap a week (yes, sad but true) although I suspect he gives a lot away to anyone that visits, if it were not for a few like him, the company would be in dire straits.
Life is short, live it to it's fullest!

X-Wifes Dad used t drink a case of #$*& beer a day. He also pissed in a bucket in the living room and beat his wife and kids, and was pretty much an a-hole.
I'm more fond of folks who drink a couple of good beers a day

True story about this beer:
I was a Senior in college and my buddy and I were going around to all the housing on campus and crashing every party we could. Stayed for an hour or so and than found the next place. Stopped at a place and they were playing beer pong. Now, by this time we were so drunk that I was shocked we were still walking (i'm cursed with terrible memory but for some reason my drunk memory is impecable!). Anywho, we started playing a game and grabbed 2 cans and filled up the ole red solo cups. We weren't looking for great beer and by that time I wasn't really tasting much of what went down but when I took that first sip and expected the smooth mellow flavor of that good ole BMC I almost spit it out! I couldn't believe how bad that beer actually tasted. Picked up that silver and blue can and behold it was Milwaukees Best.... the worst tasting beer I had ever drank! Of course we powered through the game but that was the only game we played there and bounced quickly on to the next party to crash. First and last time I have ever drank that beer.
