Hola
Hey all, I am trying brewing again after a failed experiment 15 years ago. I figure I make my own bread and my own cheese, if I can nail the beer I am self-sufficient right? So I have a question, Beer Demon, is it cheating? My initial foray into brewing was boiling grains, hopping, etc. this seems disturbingly easy after all that before.

Re: Hola
First off, welcome to The Borg! Second, absolutely NO Brew Demon is not cheating! For most, typically the likes if Brew Demon, Mr Beer, etc are starting points for this hobby, sounds like you started backwards the first go around. There are many seasoned brewers here that are more than willing to help, so if you have a question please ask!

Welcome. Using kits, whether it's Brew Demon or any other kit, is in no way cheating. Kits can produce some really tasty beer. Glad your getting back into it. Can't wait to hear about your success.

Hello and welcome, glad you found us. You're going to find a lot has changed in 15 years. Extract kits are not cheating at all and will make ribbon winning beer. This hobby can be as simple or complex as you would like to make it, with great beer as a result. We have a wide array of brewers here from Kit to All Grain. Started with MrBeer myself before moving to AG. Please feel free to ask any questions along the way.

If I understood your ? the difference is between those without a lot of time for all grain brewing and using the HMEs (Hopped Malt Extracts) which cost more ( because the company has done most of the work for you) so can still make very good beer.
Once you've looked around this site some you'll see that there are ways we tweak those lovely little cans of beer goodness to make them more personalized, just like secret ingredients in a favorite recipe.

Thanks all. I appreciate all the positive responses. I am really looking forward to brewing a darker ale after this first batch. BD Santa's Midnight Ale is looking pretty good.
Re: Hola
Welcome to the friendliest forum on the web! As above, I started with kits. I still use my BrewDemon Conical for more advanced brewing. There is a Belgian Dubbel in it right now.

Welcome to The Borg. Glad you found us, you can make some real good beer quite easy with extracts as long as you follow some basic guidelines. Don't be afraid to ask questions if needed.

welcome to the forum, strandedvandal! Most, if not all of us, started with a system like brew demon. An easy way to learn to brew

Welcome. IMO: If the end result is beer and you enjoy drinking it, it is never cheating.

Re: Hola
Late to the party, but hello! You can brew anything in your brew demon fermenter, so once you feel comfortable going beyond those extracts you can do whatever you'd like, but by no means are extracts "cheating". I do a little bit of everything, sometimes still use some of those extracts as a "base malt" to build upon to save time, and am always happy to help. Have fun!
