Aw, nuts!
Took the week off between Christmas and New Year to spend with my family including my in-town brudder, out-of-town dad and out-of-state brudder and their families. Ended up getting a wing-dinger of a cold on the 29th and spent the rest of the week miserable on the couch, waging a pharmaceutical war on the fever and histamine release. Missed work today. What a waste of time off. Finally went to the doctor today to make sure it wasn’t flu or strep. Now I have some codeine syrup and I’m feeling better but I still can’t taste or smell anything. My Slumlord Bitter tastes like fizz water to me, even though last week I was able to give it a thumbs up. The upsides to the week were a Twilight Zone marathon on ScyFy Channel, and a beauteous win over Nick Saban in the Sugar Bowl for my Buckeyes. Now we’re goin’ Duck huntin’!

Re: Aw, nuts!
Many years ago went skiing in Aspen, met family there. Sick as a dog, disaster of a trip too (skied 1 day). When I got back I converted my vacation days to sick days, boss was fine with it. I offered a note from my mother who was one of the family members we met. He found that very funny.

Some colds can be worse than the flu. I know people who've had a cold about 2 weeks. I live with nose stuffiness due to mild allergies but since getting the flu shot for many years, my colds don't seem to last as long or be as bad.
I hope you get rid of that funk soon.

Re: Aw, nuts!
Sorry to hear about your woes, Alb. Fortunately for me I seem to be immune (Chuck N. is knocking on the wooden table top as he types this) to the flu but colds get me every once in a while.
It was fun to watch the "Buckies" beat up on the Tide. But it was even more fun watching them kick the snot outa the"Bad-Jers". Especially after they wooped my "Go-Fers" who then went on to embarrass us in the Citris Bowl.

I hope you feel better soon, Li'l Sis.
Don't bother drinking any beer, though. It won't taste good, and won't help with your maladies.
I recommend my own concoction, which I've dubbed Big Daddy's Speshul Med'cine.
Brew a cup of tea. Into that tea pour two or three glugs of Jack Daniels. Sweeten with enough sugar to make it drinkable. Drink as hot as you can stand it.
Believe it or not, it relieves cold symptoms quite well. The hot liquid and steam loosens up the mucous membranes, and the JD dries 'em out. You get used to the taste eventually.

Re: Aw, nuts!
My mom’s cure when I was a little one was hot lemonade with honey. Same principle, and worked great for sore throats. Now I agree with you, it’s even better with a little loopy juice in there. I never tried it with tea, but it sounds good. Especially something tart with rose hips, maybe. I’ll be tryin’ dat.FedoraDave wrote:I recommend my own concoction, which I've dubbed Big Daddy's Speshul Med'cine.

I've done what Dave does too, and I agree that it works. I add a touch of honey and a drop of almond extract to it also. MMmmm, tasty.
