Lagunitas vs. Sierra Nevada (Legal Complaint Filed)

Post by Kealia »

Here is the short story.

Image

I know it's necessary to protect intellectual property and trademarks, etc. to prevent brand confusion/erosion but don't you hate it when Mom and Dad fight?

edit to add: I think this is a HUGE stretch and not confusing at all.

The Lagunitas carrier is printed in their traditional colors, which is one of the most distinctive things about their packaging, IMO. Also, it says "Lagunitas" right at the top, as opposed to the Sierra Nevada carrier, which is a totally different color, and, hey! it says "Sierra Nevada" across the top!

"Frivolous Lawsuit" are the letters I see. The comments following the article are almost unanimously annoyed with Lagunitas. That's my feeling too. Now I'm kind of thirsty for Sierra Nevada.

The only thing they have in common is the Bold Black Lettering of IPA...what a waste of time and energy for everyone involved.

Edit...I didn't read the article first. Apparently, that is the complaint. That the Bold lettering and spacing is too similar.

Good call....perhaps they need to get back to their homebrewing roots and RDWHAHB!

It's so hard to say what's actually behind this and take sides although it would appear on the surface that Lagunitas is crazy....

All this thread made me want to do is go buy a bottle of Lagunitas Sucks and a bottle of SNPA Torpedo or Southern Hemisphere Wet Hop and let them fight it out in my stomach.

Indeed. Whoever said there's no such thing as bad publicity didn't get hit in the pocketbook with it.
