Mr Beer Forum

Post by joechianti »

At the risk of being stoned to within an inch of my life, I'd like to report that the old forum has been substantially repaired. We have our old threads back and our old PM's as well. There's a new crop of eager to learn brewers and the management attitude is no longer hostile or negative, as far as I can tell. We used to have mentoring and camaraderie existing sjde-by-side there. Best of both on the entire internet, I thought. We have our camaraderie here but the pool of folks in need of mentoring is growing over there. If anyone harbors no ill feelings, maybe you'd consider sharing some of your time. Just a thought.

Thanks for the update Joe!

It looks pretty complete. My profile was just as I left it when the site crashed.

Also, I was looking back thru old post and noticing how many of us were green noobies
just a couple of years ago!

Thanks Joe, I'll go take a look we I have a chance. Maybe who ever started the "New and Improved total downfall of what was a great working site" has been flogged.

I'm glad they are doing better there and have no hard feelings but I'm not really interested in the great majority of the forums. I no longer do anything but all grain (though I may still do an extract again one day) and while there are some areas that I can offer help, I'd rather spend what time I have here.
But, I hope some of this group will still help out there in some way or another.

I'm exactly with BeerLord. When I was over there, I got help from all of you. I'm happy to help others, here and on HomeBrewTalk. But I have no LBKs, and never managed to make good beer with their refills, or almost any HME. I'm sure that was largely my fault, but I have little advice to give on MrBeer, and no attachment to their forum anymore. But I think it would be great if some of us went over to help out. It's in the spirit of brewing.

I just feel that if I'm not buying Mr. Beer stuff, even though there are places on the forum for non Mr. Beer talk, I feel funny using it and not being a customer.
But, the more forums we have access to, the better for us. I actually visit 2 other forums daily besides this one though I'm not very active on the others. If I thought I could really be of help to the majority of people there, I'd gladly help but not having use those products in a long time, I'm likely of very little use.
I did visit it and it is much improved from the debacle it was. That's a good thing.

For S-N-Gs, I checked there. My old account has not been reinstated. I guess they will never forgive me for telling newbies to come here. Ahhh, don't care, they can kiss my backside.

Actually I'm glad to see that they have made some badly needed improvements and I do hope that some of you that visit the Mr. Beer forum can help those new brewers and serve as ambassadors for the Beerborg when/if those brewers want to move beyond those extract kits.

One of the reasons I created this site was because Mr. Beer restricted conversation about other companies and products which is kind of understandable but also was frustrating for many that had moved beyond those extract kits or wanted to talk about their full brewing experience. Here everyone is free to talk about any product or anything that may be of interest to other brewers and help everyone make better beer.

I totally understand the different feelings about the old forum and the company. Especially for those individuals who were most personally affected. That was too weird how they were banning people. I think maybe they were very insecure at the time and panic drove them more than logic. I agree this is the better place for the camaraderie of more advanced brewers. We used to have dual roles over there, the mentoring process and the companionship process. Again, I totally understand and respect those who may not be inclined to return there. At the same time, for those who find it in their hearts to lend a hand over there, I think John Sand captured my sentiment best when he said' "in the spirit of brewing". Louie, I hope you don't take any offense from this. You are my hero for creating and maintaining this site. This is now my home base where my best friends are. Mr Beer Forum is more like a service project now. The companionship segment is dominant here and the mentoring segment is primarily what's going on there. I had some strong negative feelings about the way that forum was being treated there, myself, but it seems they're righting things now. I'll never forget how much the mentoring changed my life, and I'd like to "pay that forward" also. I realize that the people who mentored me are here now instead of there. I consider them as friends now, and this is where I come to see my friends. But the overwhelming number of newbies created by Mr Beer makes that an ideal place to help further the brewing cause.

Wow. That's the exact words that ran through my mind when I finished writing that last post. I even almost wrote it at the end. You just blew my mind.

Joe, I'm just good like that. And I even know exactly what you're thinking right at this moment so let me just say to you.....DON'T DO IT! Don't send me ALL your beer because I can read minds. But I thank you anyway. :p
