When "my" dog at the fraternity house was small, he would hop up on the couch, jump on the table, and knock a glass of beer down so he could lap it up. The girls thought this was so cute. As he got older and started drinking more and more, we soon realized that it probably was not good for him especially during parties when it seemed everyone was letting him lap up a glass. So, it was time to do what we had to do to our other dogs - let him get drunk, throw up, and never drink again.

Unfortunately, that strategy did not work. Max did just that, but afterwards he was one changed puppy. He would lap up beers and hit a point, cock his head, and go lay under the desk for a few hours until he got up and did the same thing. We - unfortunately - did not teach him that drinking was bad. We simply taught him his limit....

Duncan is always curious about my beer, but he recoils when I give him a smell. He'll also wander into the kitchen when I'm brewing and sniff at the first runnings, which are in a pot on the floor. I think, in that case, he doesn't care for how hot it is.

If a dog eats hops, it will likely be fatal.
I guess beer is ok, because the hops are at low concentration ... still, if I had a dog that I cared about ... I would not give it beer. No good could come of it.

I kind of wonder about all these things they say are bad for dogs.

Growing up we had a dog that was not trained properly. He also was a walking garbage disposal that would eat anything he could reach. He ate 10 lbs of M&Ms in one sitting. He didn't eat for 2 or 3 days afterwards but other than that no problem. He ate grapes by the bunches. He ate a 5 lb bag of onions on a couple of occasions. He was a GSD/Chow Chow mix and lived to be 17 years old which is above the average life span of either breed.

But back to bowser beer. I am offended they call it beer. It's barley soup. No fermentation + no hops does not equal beer.
