Yup, I love how in Motown a vast majority of the sports and entertainment venues are now offering a craft selection and some even an entire bar devoted to it. For the price they charge for a BMC, another buck for something good is WELL worth it!FedoraDave wrote:Of course, when I go to the ballpark, I can still get excellent craft beer nowadays, even at the Can/Am stadium here in the county.

Well, I cracked another winter steam, and everything's fine. These are heavily carbed though, so maybe that combined with a lotta trub was the culprit. Even if it was a bug that got in that one bottle, at least it's not the whole batch. And because of all the chatter about miller high life, I'm going to drink another just on principal.

17 replies and not a single offer from anybody to have you ship them the rest of the bottles for any quality control checks. The Borg is slipping.

I hate when that happens...its disgushing.
Isn't there a pill for that? There should be. Lets invent one we've got a lot of smart folks here.

I just thought it was now a given that Rick got them so no use trying as every time I've offered nothing has shown up at my stoop.Kealia wrote:17 replies and not a single offer from anybody to have you ship them the rest of the bottles for any quality control checks. The Borg is slipping.

Re: First gusher!
Well, I thought I was in the clear, but the gusher issue has continued. Now it's been intermittent between two separate batches. I'm stressing. Had to dump a couple of bottles of my IRA and have managed to save a couple winter steams by letting off some carb by popping the flip tops and and resealing( flip tops rule). The Winter steams taste fine but I didn't drink the IRAs because there was a lot of particulates floating in those. I honestly don't know what would cause this. Same sanitation procedure as always. immediately after popping a brew, (and before I even drink it) I rinse thoroughly, add a small scoop of oxy and fill with water. I generally let that sit a day or so and then thoroughly rinse again. Come bottling day, I always use starsan on bottles, wand etc. I don't know if I over primed these or if I have a bug. I don't take hydrometer samples during fermentation, (figure that's one more chance for infection) but I always ferment 3 weeks. I think I'll wait to brew again until I see how the coffee stout I just bottled turns out.

Re: First gusher!
I had one batch, a rye, that every bottle was a gusher. Tasted good, but all I got out of it after the gushing/foaming was done was bout 1/3 of a glass. After each one settled down, it tasted pretty good all things considered. I think somehow I had an infected batch but no bad taste or smells. But there is the possibility of incomplete fermentation, it was one of my first 5 gallon batches way back when.

check the bottles under a strong light. I was cleaning my bottles by soaking in Oxyclean. And discovered a film left in the bottles, after cleaning, by holding them up to sunlight. I was looking for answers after my first gusher batch. Might not be your problem, but worth havin' a look see.
