IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED....................

Post by braukasper »

.....................HELL HAS FROZEN OVER!!
I am going to brew extract. Right now I just do not have the strength to do an all grain. I need the BORG's help in putting together a recipe for my daughter's birthday. She prefers stouts and potters. I do not want to a vanilla porter I have done these to death. I am thinking a coffee. She likes her coffee strong & with milk any ideas? I am thing of doing a PM. What guidelines & wisdom does the BORG have for me?

It is sometimes hard to know if you are giving us good news or bad but I hope it's good news.
The bad news is you spelled frozen wrong.

You sneaky dog you! You changed it.....I was going to do a screen cap of it for fun.
Nice try but I had my glasses on and my mind wasn't 'froven'.
But more importantly, your edit does let me know you're not back in the hospital. That's a good thing.

If I recall correctly, a guy on my bowling team just made a coffee milk stout (although it may have just been a coffee stout, I'll have to check). Want me to ask him about it? I don't know if he used a kit, and/or if it was AG, PM, or extract, but I'd be glad to follow up if you like.

If it was just a coffee stout, you could always just add the lactose, and there you go. It turned out very good.

Glad to see you up and about. Your daughter has good taste. Stouts and Porters are my favorites, too. I just recently tried Founders Breakfast Stout. A chocolate, oatmeal, coffee blend. It's fantastic. Somewhere in one of these posts is a link to a recipe,. If you're interested, I can probably find that post.

Ok Bob, I'll start on a Milk Stout extract and maybe the Borg can join in to add to it and add some coffee flavor as I have never done a coffee beer but have done milk stout extracts, 5 gals. - 6 lbs dark malt LME, 1 LB lactose, 8 oz Chocolate Malt, 4 oz. Flaked Barley, 4 oz. Roasted Barley specialty grains, 8 oz.Black Malt, 8 oz. Caramel 80L specialty grains, steep or better mini-mash. A 8-10% hop 1 0z. @60, maybe 04 or wyeast 1028...Ok guys let's go?????

@ Dave yes please check.

Right now I am thinking of using Marris Otter extract as the base malt.

I messaged him on Facebook last night, and he said he'll bring the recipe to bowling this evening. I'll try to post it ASAP, but I have to work tomorrow, so I may not get to it until the afternoon.
