Ralph's Springtime IPA

Post by Gymrat »

I am calling this a springtime IPA because by the time I tap the Keg it will probably be March or close to it. I am clearing out hops I have in my freezer which is what has dictated my choice of them.

Great way to clean out the hop closet. No bittering charge, interesting. Keep us updated.

You could swap out my Bassett for Ralph right now. Our couch backs up agains a wall. We put his blanket up on top. He jumps up on the seat part, reaches up and drags the blanket down to lay on just like that. What silly puppies we have. :clink:

Looks good. I have to look up Galaxy, I'm unfamiliar with those hops. I think you'll like the results of that hop schedule. I used a similar schedule on my recent session IPA and I think it's one of the best IPA's I've done.

Roger, your beers I've had have been stellar so I say this as only a suggestion but.....if you like it a bit more bitter, take 1 oz of the Columbus you have at steep and switch it with the 1 oz of Cascade you have at 15. You already have quite a lot of IBU's but I've found that Columbus is a great bittering hop but has an even better flavor than Cascade.
But, as is, it's a recipe that I endorse. I know Ralph will like it.

Thanks Paul, but I hate bitter, which is why the galaxy and columbus are going in last. Also I have found that galaxy add a lot more percieved bitterness than columbus do.

Inkleg this is the hop schedule I use on all my IPAs. It gives fantastic hop flavor with percieved bitterness being close to an Odells IPA.

I hear ya. We all have different tastes and as I've said, do what you like to drink and others will enjoy it too.
I've got so many hops and I have to make a bunch of hoppy IPA's soon to make some room in the freezer.

I want to replenish my supplies of Centinials, Amarillos, and Simcoes. But I just hate to buy more hops while I have so many aging in my freezer.

I kegged this beer today. It finished at 1.012 for an ABV of
7.7%. The flavor was very pineapple. It has a really nice aroma.

Glad it came out well. It sounds great. And once again I'm wishing for long-distance sniffing abilities.
