Power-Ball Fever!
As usual I am guaranteed to win $2.00 off the Power-Ball drawing. If you don't throw money away at a ticket you' can't lose. If you can't lose then you're a guaranteed winner, right?
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

winner winner chicken dinner. $2.00 in pocket
Re: Power-Ball Fever!
Well, you each got 50c from me. I bought one ticket, got one number. I have a theory that I could extrapolate the winning numbers from my quick picks, as I never get more than one right.

Re: Power-Ball Fever!
I saved $10 on a Northern Brewer order. (20% discount today for Power-Ball loosers). Probably better then I would have done playing Power-Ball.
Re: Power-Ball Fever!
I have a friend that plays all the time. Back when it was $1.00 for a ticket we would stop at a party store or something if I had 4 quarters in my pocket I might get a ticket. We'd always end up going back to somebody's place and talking about what we would buy with the winnings. We'd look up houses or cars or computers or whatever for a few hours. I got a ton of entertainment out of it that way.
But now that I need the money a bit more and I don't get to hang out with him as much I don't buy them.

They say that lotteries are a great way to part fools from their money. My wife comes home yesterday saying how they bought 68 tickets in a pool at work - cost us $5. I told her next time we go out to eat she can have a BMC to save money.

Now that right there would be considered abuse.RickBeer wrote: I told her next time we go out to eat she can have a BMC to save money.

I'm not a big gambler, no one in my family is either. My Dad used to buy tickets when the pay off was high enough to enable big dreams. He viewed it as entertainment. One day I came home (he lived with me) and he handed me a ticket and the winning numbers printout, asking "What does this mean?" "I think it means you won $10,000" I replied. He thought so too. He offered to split it with me, I declined. He split it with my youngest brother when he went to live with him.

My father in-law buys a ticket every week, won $3,825 or something 30 years ago. Called me up and said "I won thirty-eight twenty-five. Conversation went on for 5 minutes with me hearing $38.25 and him meaning three thousand eight hundred and twenty-five. He's since lost that and more.

A guy from our town won $1,000,000.00 several years ago. It was all gone inside of five years. I just can't imagine going through that much money that fast. I think the actual after-tax pay-out was somewhere in the neighborhood of $650,00.00. With no change in my current life-style I could retire off that and still have some left by the time I was eligible for SS.Dawg LB Steve wrote:I know two people that have won $500,000.00 one scratch off and one lotto, lump sum after tax $365,000.00 both BROKE within a year!

That is somewhat equivalent of 20-25 years of working after taxes. Leave most of it alone, have some fun, for a year and almost start living off interest! These people absolutely amaze me as to how they wake up and function daily at times.Chuck N wrote:A guy from our town won $1,000,000.00 several years ago. It was all gone inside of five years.
