Peanut Butter Powder
Anybody have any experience using a peanut butter powder, found at BJ's warehouse store here it is from Better Body and it is called PBFit. They say they have extracted 75% of the oil in creating the powder. I have had this and it does not taste too bad as far as peanut butter goes they way they say to mix. Was wondering if this is something that can be used in a porter or stout ( I would need to figure out by trial and error what quantity to use ) and if it should be used in the mash or at the end of a boil or making a slurry at keg time.

I bought some PB2 a while back to use for brewing, but I've never done anything with it. Maybe I should do that sometime. My daughter likes to sprinkle it on sliced bananas, so at least it hasn't gone to waste...
This HBT thread goes into a lot of detail on some people trying it...

Sadly, I have done the same. Most of my reference material is from HBT as well. There is some discussion over at Beer Advocate, which may be worth perusing. [ http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/t ... b2.124472/ ]. I would certainly be interested in hearing if any of the Borg have experience with this, or similar, products...swenocha wrote:I bought some PB2 a while back to use for brewing, but I've never done anything with it.

Re: Peanut Butter Powder
I saw it and bought it with brewing in mind, being that I read where Willoughby Brewing used a peanut butter powder to flavor their Peanut Butter Cup Porter that RedBEERd ended up with from the Dirty Santa.

A few years ago I made this:

It turned out pretty good. My brudder liked it.

Y'all talking about powdered stuff reminded me. We(SWMBO and I) were looking at wal mart.com and ran up on this.

Re: Peanut Butter Powder
How big a batch was yours and how much of the PB2 and when di you add it? From some of the research I've done on this it looks like, when I do brew this, I will add at either flame out or 5 minutes, that or boil up some water and mix up a slurry add after maybe 5-7 into primary, still researching. Don't want to infect a batch of good beer.alb wrote:A few years ago I made this:

My eyes are getting worse than ever. I thought the name of the beer in Alb's link was Chocolate Covered Beaver Nutz. I think I need new glasses.
But seriously, I use PB2 in my protein shakes and I like it. I think I'd like to try it in a stout one of these days. Just not sure of the best way and time to add it to maintain the most of it's flavor.

That's where I'm at Joe, I'm leaning more towards 13-15 oz at 5 minutes to avoid any infections. Probably wont have time till mid March till I try.

That's sooner than I'll probably be able to work it into my rotation. Please do let us know how it goes.Dawg LB Steve wrote:That's where I'm at Joe, I'm leaning more towards 13-15 oz at 5 minutes to avoid any infections. Probably wont have time till mid March till I try.

13oz into the secondary then rack on top of it. I used 1 jar of PB and 1 jar of PB Chocolate. After the addition of the nibs, I left the secondary alone for 6 months, then bottled it.

Re: Peanut Butter Powder
Used this powder in a stout a year ago and after conditioning for 8 months it was the only beer that I brewed in 3 years that I dumped. Maybe the recipe that I used was flawed but it was the worst beer ever. Hope you have better results.
