How we do Lent in NOLA
The NOLA/Stone collab.... Bringer of Destruction with a half fried shrimp, half fried oyster poboy. Dayum! I went to heaven.
The beer was good but not something to brag about. We finished off the night with 2 stouts.
We ain't perfect here but me loves our grub here. I could not do without my fresh seafood all year long. And the beer just keeps getting better here. We may be late catching on to the craft beer scene but I like ride up the hill.

I admit that I feel a little guilty about "sacrificing" meat for shrimp, though I did today. I actually considered giving up beer for Lent, but I gave up that idea instead. I am giving up ice cream.

Never mind, there it is.

Re: How we do Lent in NOLA
I've decided, besides a few other things, I'm only drinking beer one day a week......starting next week.
But seriously, for a good portion of Lent, that's one of the things I'm doing. Also trying to be more positive in other aspects of my life.
But eating seafood is such a sacrifice.

I think that being positive is a great idea. While a little self discipline and sacrifice is good for you, we can all do things that are good for everyone. I read on another forum of a guy trying to be nicer for Lent. Maybe I'll give up yelling at pompous people on TV....next year!

Where's the bread?
Miss the great Nawlins cooking big time myself.
I'm majorly bummed out that there isn't a seafood market anywhere around here. I mean are there not any fish in the Atlantic ocean along the Virginia shore or what?
There is just something not right about fish out of a can when you grew up in NOLA.

BB, not too many, the trawlers take them all. You might get some blues in the surf early on and then some croakers in the summer, but the east coast fisheries have been hurting. Crabbing is always good though. It is surprising from Jersey down to Hatteras the lack of good local fish markets.

I do appreciate the seafood you get. I'm right near the coast myself and get access to fresh fish and incredible clam chowder and love it.
Enjoy.

I married up for sure. Came home from the gym and oops, added a few calories back on. Lent should be all year long.
