It wasn't the best beer I've had but it was good and I had a blast making it. I put an oatmeal stout in the fermenter today and can barely wait to try it, Samuel Smiths is my favorite beer of all time. I can see this home brewing thing becoming a lifelong hobby. Excited to try all grain once I educate myself more.
Welcome! My first batch wasn't the best either but I liked it because I had made it. You will make better beer as you go along. Like others have suggested, I would make a few kits, straight up to improve your techniques and get a baseline for what to expect. I went from there to adding steeping grains to kits, and then eventually to all grain. Have fun, take it one step at a time and MAKE SOME BEER!

Like all of us (well me for sure), my first batch wasn't store quality by any means. But I had brewed it and that made all the difference in the world. Then I found this group of guys (and gals) and it has been a downhill ride ever since, with beer at the end.
Well thanks, Ink!

The oatmeal stout seems to be coming along nicely. Had a pretty active fermentation after about 12 hours, but slowed down substantially within about 24 and the trub really started accumulating. Gonna let it sit for a couple weeks before I bottle. Should have gotten a hydrometer before, but it's on the list. Thanks again for all the input.
