I have their fermenter and love it but have no way to chill the conicals but can vouch for the quality of their work. They have great customer service too.

What is different about chilling a conical over a SS bucket?

I'm guessing it's a space issue. I've thought about the conicals for quite a while, but not sure it would fit in my chest freezer fermentation chamber. I think an upright freezer would be better for a conical, but not ready to pull the trigger on one of those AND an upright...
Fermenting: Bucket 1 - Fresh Squeezed IPA; Bucket 2 - Empty

Kegged: Keg 1 - Irish Red; Keg 2 - Cream Ale; Keg 3 - Amber Ale; Keg 4 - APA; Keg 5 - Empty; Keg 6 - Empty; Keg 7 - Empty

I simply run a high velocity fan on mine. That keeps it right at the ambient temperature of my basement. 66 to 68F

You know, they look huge in the photo, but they are only 33 inches tall. I think they fit pretty well in many chest freezers.

They actually make cooling systems for both: http://www.ssbrewtech.com/collections/ftss

It's more cost, but it's nice you can get into them for cheap, then add cooling/heating if you need it down the road.

Yep, for me its definitely a space issue but looking at the photo, I'll have to measure my freezer and see if it can hold it.

Ryan, what is the connector being used in that photo and why do you have 2 blowoffs? My concern with space was because I just know with an airlock it won't fit but I think I can it 33" in my freezer.

It's a blow off. Instead of one large, it tees into two small ones.

Ah, me thinks you're right so where is the blow off/airlock?
Bad news though, my cheap GE, which can barely hold my SS fermenter and Ale Pale, only has an inside height of 27 1/4". So, the conical won't fit in it. But, I did go cheap and find something that would fit in the only place I could fit it (without my goddess having problems with it).

What is the temperature of the room you ferment your beer in?

Those are absolutely blow off tubes. I blew up the picture and it is a T connector coming from the lid.

Roger, for most of the year, the room temp is near 70. Just not good enough to trust. The freezer I got definitely has helped my beer.
I really don't need a conical except for the fact that I want one.

I saw my friend who's in from Japan. He comes home twice a year and buys lots of stuff to bring back to brew. He just got the SS Fermenter (not true conical) and was amazed at the quality of the unit.
I'm a happy brewer who's learned to live within my means which simply means......I want it all!
