Today's purchase

Post by Beer-lord »

Our local, surburban grocery has really improved it's beer department thanks all to a guy named Sonny who opened up a brewery ages ago that lasted a very short while. He has made the small, beer area into a place beer lovers would just want to stay all day (except they don't serve beer). I'm not a German beer guy but he's got quite the collection. He's getting in things very few places close to me have.
Today he saw me and told me he got the first shipment of Lagunitas Hop Stoopid in and it's not on the shelf yet (I took 2). Then he was waiting to find room for Lazy Magnolia's 10....a 10th Anniversary Ale that is 10% ABV, made with 10 ingredients to be served at 10 C (50F) and only on sale for 10 months and cost $10. It's a Belgian Quad which is not something I normally would buy but LM has some pretty good specialty beers and I just had to grab one and help the nearly local brewery.

Hop Stoopid is the best bargain IPA out there... Really, Lagunitas is such a bargain for most of their beers...

I agree but how do they do it? Ship it across the country and sell it for $5 a bomber. A DIPA no less.

I love Little Sumpin Sumpin but their regular IPA is just so-so to me. And that's strange because everything else I tasted has been awesome. So far in bottles, they've only done LSS and Their IPA with kegs only of Sucks. I met a local Lagunitas sales person recently and they said they've done very, very well in our area and have pushed up the plans to bring more in. That's a good thing.

Haven't tried the Hop Stoopid, but I'm willing to try anything Lagunitas puts out. Sure do love that Li'l Sumpin' Sumpin'!

Tonight I've been drinking Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. Quite nice, and very powerful. I was just in the mood for some really hoppy West Coast bitterness.

All of this talk about L'il Sumpin' (which is a damn good beer) has got me wanting to look for a clone to brew!

Not a bad idea, Phil. I don't usually do clone recipes, but I've done a Fat Tire clone before (and will again), and I certainly wouldn't mind having a Li'l Sumpin' clone in the bullpen, either. This requires further research.

Have you only tried it once? I ask because I think it's a really good beer. It's everywhere here so I only drink it when out (because I can find it on tap anywhere) and I always enjoy it.

Anyway - it's great that you found a new beer store. Congrats!

No, got a sixer of it but have it on draft and bottles. If I wasn't so much of an IPA fool, it would be great but it's not bad, just not great to my taste buds.

I love the quarts of Sucks. Drink it from the bottle and you feel like you're rocking a 40 of the Colt... ;)
